Default Axle leaf questions

I was in the process of adding my one inch rear blocks yesterday and thought maybe my leafs looks a bit odd. This pic is before the blocks were added but are they supposed to look like this?

My 05 has the "off-road" package and the leafs look the exact same as yours. I thought this was a little odd and I've looked at at least 5 other 4x4 rams around here and they look the same. I didnt' think anything of it after I saw others that were the same. It doesn't seem right though. I've never seen any other leafs on another make truck look like them. Let us know if you get new ones and they look more like a conventional leaf.

I have to ask....

Do you have lift shackles installed on your truck by any chance?? If you do, they flatten leaves out like that very quickly, almost always.

Lift shackles destroy leaf packs... A lift block would only make matters worse.

I wouldn't panic, but the next time you overhaul the rear end, use add-a-leaves, or have a larger leaf pack built for the lift, never use longer shackles. They just accelerate leaf spring wear like you wouldnt believe.

I don't know about weedahoe's setup, but I'm all stock with a slight torsion bar crank for about 2" of leveling. I've got 33's too. I don't understand this, because if mine were arched more like the typical leaf spring from, say chevy, then my truck would set up higher. It doesn't sit any lower than normal, like you would expect from a sagged leaf. Maybe they just put these springs in to soften the ride for a few years???

Lift shackles do not change the return rate of the spring and there is certainly no way they would make your leafs sag. Same for leaf blocks. Dodges just have flatter springs than other trucks.

Yes, shackles definately flatten leaf springs. Thats a fact.

This is due to the extended length of the shackle creating a different angle to the datum line, it decreases the spring rate and load capacity, and definately makes them flatten out. Especially a 3" lift shackle, which i just found out he is running.

Blocks don't do any of that, what i meant earlier was, it doesnt improve that situation.

Why would I make this up lol.

I could post a bunch of links to articles that proove and support this, but I'll just leave it to whoever cares enough, to simply google this: "do lift shackles flatten leaf springs?"

Yes on running shackles (as you already know) and I do pull a heavy 16ft trailer sometimes and can be very loaded at times also. I did buy the truck new and I will look at some other new trucks and compare. THX
