Well I tried what you said and nothing happened at all when I pressed the tow/haul button while going 40, 45, 50, and 55. So where do I start to figure out how to get it working?

I went on a trip this past weekend up to the mountains and my truck was having a hard time getting up the hills. The best I could do was press and hold the accellerator down to the point that it would kick out of OD. The light doesn't come on when I press the button on the shifter. I checked for fuses in the engine compartment and I didn't see anything mentioning that function. What do I do now to get this working?

Unplug the wire running from your button in the column and see if you have continuity through it when you push it. If not your button is bad. You'll have to replace the whole shift ****. I've had to do it on a ram before.

I don't have this issue. OD off only for the '03.

How do you unplug the wiring from the button? Does the end of the shifter twist off?

I'm not 100% sure about the newer ones but the 2ng gen ones came as an assembly. You couldn't take the button off the end without breaking it. You'll have to follow the wires down the steering column untill you come accross a plug.

Well, found the problem. It was unplugged under the dash. Plugged it in and now the Tow/Haul light goes on. So that's good. So with the 3rd gen Tow/Haul Mode just makes the trans shift firmer and at a later time, but does not disengage Overdrive right? When I pressed the button once, the light turned on, pressed it again and the light went off.
