I could use your advice
Do you think it'd be wise to give it a week or two and try to sell it privately? Anf if I don't get any bites, then go for the trade in? I told them today I wanted to give it a week of selling it privately before I did the trade in. He told me if I was bent on selling it privately I'd need to make at least $17,500 to make the hassle worth it because they are going to charge me $800 in extra taxes if I don't trade it.

i had a fully loaded 09 with dvd and screens in the head rest for 29k when i was considering it. by blinded i meant that i too am impulsive and my 05 was a little dirty and the black 08 was so shiny i made a bad choice. 520 for 6 years is a lot.
That is a pretty good trade-in price. Just make sure they are not sticking anything extra on the back end. What I mean is making your trade look higher, but then upping the price a little on the new one.
I bought my 2008 when they were doing 50% off - so I got it for $16K - not shabby at all....
Also keep in mind that no one cares about modifications....the bottom line is it is a 2005 with whatever miles......the blue book does not account for modifications. Private parties will of course.
The bumper to bumper lifetime sounds pretty sweet. Are there any other dealers near you anywhere to check what they have to offer?

Wow that's annoying I just lost everything I just friggen wrote.
As usual I'm losing a lot of sleep thinking about this, I don't want to screw myself. In April of 2009 I sold my 2001 Ram 1500 for $7,000. I then put all of that money towards the down payment on my 2005 Dodge Ram. My 2005 Ram 1500 was $22,000 out the door with the 7 year/100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. So I wound up taking out a $15,000 loan. 6 months later I owe $13,000 on the '05 Ram and am paying $349 a month; not too bad.
Currently, they are asking about $31,900 out the door with the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. With the $16,000 they are offering me for my trade in, this would allow me to pay off my loan and give me $3,000 towards buying a new truck. Once I got my refund on my warranty for the '05 I'd be around $4,700 towards the new truck total. At this rate I could probably afford putting $2,000 down and then saving the remaining $2,700 as security for making the new higher payments on the '09. Still, this is a lot of money. I'm still not sure what I will offer them if I do decide to negotiate with them. I was thinking about offering $27,000 out the door with no money down. Then if I did put down $2,000 it'd be around $25,000 and hopefully that would put my payments below the $500 mark. What do you guys think? Whatever I decide to do I am not rushing into anything. I love my 2005 and it is a great operating truck.

So they are offering it for $31,900 and you are thinking $27,000? If that is the case they might just bite on that offer. Your price is not that far from what they are offering and from what I have read it seems like the price they gave you for the 09 was without any negotiation. Try them and see what they say. Worst they can do is say no.
offer it and wait it out. whem i bought my wife 07 tahoe lxt they were asking 32k telling me it booked for 35+. i told them my bank would do 29 and i had no money down and the sales man laughed at me. so i told him bye and an hour later i got a call from the sales manager telling me to come pick it up for 29 and a full tank. arent the 010's coming out soon they should be doing the clearence sales
Yeah they are doing a "25%" discount which is supposedly a $10,000 rebate from sticker price. The truck I test drove was stickering for $38,900 and with the rebate it's $28,900. Then again, I have no idea how bloated the sticker price was. I blue booked the truck last night and it was valuing at about $38,000 so it seems to be in line. As you indicated, I have yet to do any negotiating with their price because I've yet to agree to buy the truck yet.
The only sad part about this is they do not have a black truck. They have a silver truck and a champagne colored one. I asked them if they could get me a black and he moaned about how if he had to get it from elsewhere it would cost an extra $2-3k. I just figured if I was going to be in an '09 Ram for 10 years I'd want it to be a truck I absolutely wanted.
Here is the "champagne" truck I test drove on Saturday for a couple of hours. I thought it was charcoal but I guess it isn't considered that. Either way I thought it was a nice looking truck but maybe the silver might look a little cleaner and flashier:

well if nots exactly what you want this conversation is null. why would you settle when you have a perfectly good truck? are there no other dealers around you that may have one you actually want? if you do plan on having it for 10 years then it should be exactly how you want it to be from the dealer.
That is not a bad looking truck that you posted up. But with that being said, I can't see settling on a truck that you plan on keeping for a long time unless it is exactly what you want. For a payment of over $500 a month you should get exactly what you want and settle for nothing less.
