Default Clear Coat on hood peeling?

I have a 2003 ram with only 70k miles. I recently noticed the hood on my ram is peeling. And its continually getting worse. What the?! Is this normal for the ram? Anyone else have this? Any way to remedy it? Thanks

I've got an 04 and don't have any peeling. How bad is it?

My '04 gets to sit in tne hot sun, in either Florida or south Georgia every day. My paint still looks like new. But I wash and wax the thing once a month, religiously...

i had a 94 s-10 that did it real bad. turns out it was the model change year and the primer from the factory didnt make a good chemical adhesion to the paint/clear, so it all flaked off 10 yrs later. This is not the case with the ram, however. Are you the original owner? If not, a previous owner may have done some paint touch up/repair on the hood and didnt do it right. Paint is extremely picky like that... it only looks good long term if done absolutely perfect.

Sand it off and repaint it

More than likely its toast, once the clear starts peeling its a sign of poor prep work, Youd be better off having it sanded down and redone. A paint job is only as good as whats underneath it. Usually happens when corners are cut and cheap products are used.

Sounds like the peeling hood is a great excuse to upgrade to a new and better hood.

Was the paint waxed? If the paint isn't properly applied, or properly cared for, that will cause it to start fading/peeling/cracking.

Did you buy the truck new? Maybe it was re-painted (the hood that is) at some point.

I recall one, yes just one, other report like this one.

No, I THINK im the second owner. I guess it could be bad prep work or whatever but why would the original owner ever mess with the paint if it were fine as is.

Maybe it was damaged,keyed,wrecked,hail damage?

A buddy of mine has a 95 Ram and his hood and roof peeled like crazy after about 10 years. I haven't seen this on the 3rd gen Rams though.
