Default Is this normal???

I will start from the beginning. I recently put on a Magnaflow catback single in dual out the rear. Everything was fine after that install. Now I have installed a K&N CAI and I am getting a hollow popping sound that seems to be coming from the muffler.

Sometimes it does it more than others. It will do it when I an on the throttle or when it is just idleing. Is this normal. Is there anything to worry about? How do I make it stop?

By the way, I have a 2006 1500 Hemi 4x4.

I appreciate any help with this.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. Maybe I don't fully understand the MDS but why would the MDS be kicking in while it idles and while in at 20mph in town? Also, it does it while the tow/haul is engaged.

Take off the CAI and see if it stops it from doing that. It be great if you could get a clip of the sound its making.

If I had MDS on my truck, I'd wish it would come on at idle or around town. It sure would save on fuel. Who needs all 8 cylinders at 25MPH?

Like Truckin said, it might be the CAI. I know that my hemi tick was more apparent after my CAI install. Your might not be the tick, but things so change is sound after CAI's.

See when I added my CAI the exhaust tone changed, it made it a bit deeper and a bit throatier than it was before it was added. Now, I think I know what that popping is as I could hear it on mine when I had my cutout opened up and would rev it up a bit, it had more of a hollow/fluid tone to it and would pop at the end, but I never heard it through the muffler and never at idle. The only thing I could really think of is if it is running a little to lean/rich and it is backfiring and is not burning all the gas before the exhaust valve opens up (or at least I think thats what would cause that, someone refresh my memory..). Really need to hear a clip of it though.

I will see what I can do about getting a sound clip. It certainly sounds like some sort of backfire. It does not do it at all if I step on it. It only does it while cruising around in town and sometimes at idle.

I guess the most important question would be, can this hurt anything while I am trying to figure this out?
