Well its illegal......... You'll never pass inspection of smog if they do it where you live

I keep mine when i went with my system. I just did a cat back with dual outlet. If you really want a less restrictive pay a little for a set of high flows cats. You'll need some back pressure in the system.

He's not taking about running headers though, just gutting the cats from the sounds of it. And without the supporting mods needed to boost the lowend to a point where it wont matter if they are there or not there really is no point of doing them, and by supporting mods I mean more than a tuner intake and muffler.

Personally I go back and forth on it for my truck. I wouldn't mind running with no cats but the stock cats are "high flow cats" too. I have also looked up every state law and emission law here and eventhough they DO NOT do an inspection here, it is a $5000 State fine if you get cought without a cat. So if I were to be pulled over for being to loud and they check Im screwed. It is also a Federal crime to remove the cats, move the cats out of their stock location, modify the cat or to replace a cat without documentation as to what was wrong with it and why it needed to be replaced and if you get cought thats another fine. So really you get fined twice. Hell even repair shops are not even suppose to touch a vehicle that does not have a cat on it.

I mean sure the LT headers are illegal no matter what, they move the cats out of the stock location and there are other things on my truck that are not "legal" but they look legit. Friday though, I will have the headers on on friday (come hell or high water they will be on friday night after work!!!!) so I will decide for mine then.

Back to the OP, find out if you can even do it in canada without any penalties, and if you can get away with it, out the muffler you want on and drive around with the cats on, then cut them off and do the same and see what way you like it best instead of just gutting them.

Well then go for, if you dont have anything to worry about try it out for your self and definitely do some runs with the SC to give some actual numbers on it. I really would not gut the cats though, just in case you find out what everyone else is saying and you end up losing some of your lowend power. That way you can put them back on if you want.

The cats on your 08 flow really well. Mine do. With my Magnaflow cat-back, on cold mornings the condensation comes out at a really good pace. They are large, round converters. You will lose some low end torque by removing them. They add just enough back pressure to help give the truck a bit more low end grunt.
Besides that, the exhaust will stink without them. It is also a Federal law to not remove them. $20K fine if caught removing them. And since you bought the truck new, (I think), you can not blame it on the previous owner.
Leave them on. You won't regret it.
I even put a pair of high flows back on my Mustang. It runs just as good with them as it does without and smells much better!!

stock cats are not as restrictive as you may think. They are "high flow" basically right from the factory. technically, the cats on the Rams and most newer domestic vehicles are considered "pre-cats". There is the least amount of product inside the cats because one main resaon.....They are very pricey... So manufacturers cut backj as much as possible.
Your stock converters are probably holding 4-5rwhp MAX. Aftermarket cats are like 2-3rwhp. Very little gain to run illegal and without cats, not to mention the smell involved. i had no cats mon my mustang and had it dynoed. I ran 476rwhp. Then i put on a set of Magnaflow cats and re-dynoed. 473rwhp. As you can see with THAT much power, the cats only costed my a few rwhp. On a stock hemi engine the gains will be minimal.

I chose to put cats back on my mustanf because the fumes wer killing me when i would start it up parked in my garage to pull it out. Just idling a few minutes and my eyes were watery. i'd suggest leaving them on unless you are having a problem with them being plugged or something.

Running LT's, your not gonna notice anything drastic for losses because LT's provide a gain of their own down low.

Call me cautious if you want but if I were planning on commiting a federal crime no matter how minor it may seem I wouldn't write about it on the internet with a pic of my truck and the city I live in...but HEY...THATS JUST ME!!
