Default The Truth - Cats or no Cats!

Ok folks. Ive read all the threads there are to read and it goes back and forth back and forth between the....I lost bottom end and gained nothing to....i never lost bottom and its faster on take off and top end now and it sounds amazing. So whats the best guys gut the cats and run a muffler or keep the stock cats with a muffler....anyone who has ever looked into a cat knows how damn restrictive they look its like breathing through sand...I can imagine i WOULD gain top end power but would it be a complete loss for everything else??? Say we have a hemi with tuner, intake, and exhaust would it benefit it to just "GUT" the inside of the cats and leave everything else going back to a 3" magnaflow...????

It would open things up to much for a stock engine to benefit from, reducing the back pressure to the point that it would hurt you more than it would help.

my cats were off when i bought my ram. its still pretty ballsy of the line. i dont have a reference though. my truck always had a rattle, i was told it was a broken baffle in the flo master 40 i had. so i bought a AT3030 and i still had the rattle just a hell of a lot louder, like embarrassing loud. so i had to have a resonator put on. it stopped the rattle and quieted it down a little, i had the cats in my possession for a while and i looked through them, they didn't look to restrictive. all i could see was a couple of screens and i could see daylight on the other side. my truck does run lean and the exhaust smells funny. i have a hyperpac in my truck which has a built in dyno, drag strip, etc.. any who with no cats, an air raid intake, at3030 muffler dumped, a premium tune from hyper tech( i know they suck but the hyperpac was free) and a home brew power wire. i never got above 250 rwhp on the dyno feature. i know they are not exactly accurate but everything else reads within 2+/- of what my gauges read. i also have big *** wheels so that may have dropped it too. i wouldn't recommend it. plus the scrap yard will only give you 35 each for them... just get a cut out

Well Id like to know also because I will be adding my LTs on soon and would like NOT to have the cats but I think the only way for me to know is to do it and report back.

Ive had this bookmarked in my Favs for some time but here is a link to some false cats if you are interested or anyone else. You can also find them on ebay.

On a side note, Ive seen a lot of vids on Youtube with guys running open headers and no complaints or mentioning loss of bottom end. Thats not to say there is or isnt any. I just dont know.
