Default hemi oil change.

i just read this on a motorcyle forum. this guy has an 05 hemi (like mine) and says the owners manual requires 5w20or 0w20 oil and the factory oil filter due to psi valve blow by. he says that if he puts in 10w30 or another filter, then the engine will knock. anyone know about this? i'm due for my 1st oil change.

its not due to the blow by and factory filter is not required. it is due to allowing the multi dispacment to operate properly. using 5w20 is the way dodge accomplished making the system work for them.

my 2005 ram does not have that multi displacement --that's 4cyl/8cyl, right? so i should have no problems with the oil and filter, right?

That's correct- use the 5W30 as recommended in the manual and you'll be fine.

How often is everyone changing their oil. I just got my 05- 2500 two weeks ago. I read the book for how I drive and conditions it states every 6000... I have change my oil in my old 96 1500 every 3000. But I have to say when I did it every 3000 that old was clean.

Do you guys stick with the 5W30 all the time or do you use 10W30 during the summers? I was raised to switch to 5W only during the winter, but I'm curious about my new HEMI. Should I switch over and stick with it?

I've read the lighter oil helps reduce the occurance of the "hemi tick". I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the multi displacement since none of the rams come with it. I think there is a SB out for earlier hemis to run this lighter oil. I've seen where several have gotten rid of the tick by running it. I run Mobile 1 5w30 and change every 5000.

I stick with the 5w-30 since it basically covers the same range of temperatures as the 10w-30, but flows better when cold.
