Default Yes, another wheel/tire/leveling thread....

Alright fellas, a little change of pace here. I couldn't pull the cash for the big boy wheels, so I'm gonna try'n go for some tires and leveling kit.

Before you flame me, all my search attempts came up with info on the 20in wheels. I have 17's, can I still go 33's on these wheels?

From my understanding, 33's/20's fit under there from the factory, so I assume there would be no fitment issues here, but I still wanna level the truck out. I found a lot of older threads on the leveling issue, and just wanted to see if there were any new kids on the block, or any new "bests" out there.

Need one more opinion too. I really wanna do something more 'drastic' to the truck, the 22's woulda been it. Buut, I can get my current rims powdercoated (black) for around $100 (friend of a friend). Whatcha think, go or no? Might look good......

A little help on some tire size converting would be nice, like what # sequence = 33in tires for crying out loud!!

Thanks for your advice and time, and potential patience...

Hmm, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"...... I get the point

I just want to know, mainly, whats the absolute biggest tire I can put on my stocker 17in rims. And maybe a thought or two on the stockers getting PC black

33" is 33" no matter how big of a wheel it's on.

http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html is pretty nifty.

A few people on here run 35s on stock 17s, myself included. Pretty sure 35x12.5 are the largest you can get with stock setup. Ill try n get some pics showing my clearance.

The calculator I always use is http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html I like it because it shows you a crude picture of what the difference will be between 2 tire sizes...both in height and width. I have a 2005 4x2 and I put 295/70/17 on the stock 17x8 rims. That is just a little over a 33" tire. I did put 2.5" spacer on the front to level it out first. The guy that did my tires told me that he could put a 305/70/17 (almost a 34" tire) on the rim but that it really needed a 17x8.5 rim to fit properly. But it would have fit.

im pretty sure you shouldnt go over a 285 width on stock wheels because they may not wear evenly. not saying your cant do it because many have but its just an fyi

Thanks for the responses fellas, just the info I was looking for. I wasn't sure of the rim width, so a 285 is the 'safest' way to go huh?

Although Im sure I dont need to level for the 33's, Im gonna do it for ***** and giggles I'm just gonna have to stay away from the 35's, too many variables going against them (too narrow of rim, possible uneven wear, more expensive, 4.7 motor, calls more for re-gearing than 33's) Sounds like 285/70/17 is the way to go.

Ive been tearing up some TireRack, and found some decent tires. Im looking for a mildly aggressive tire, not straighttread, but no IROCS either, any suggestions?

Thanks again guys, I know these are the 'same ol same ol' questions, I just couldnt find satisfactory info from the searches...

i have the nitto terra grappler in a 305/70/17 tire which is a Load E rating However. I like them, they look good with the smooth sidewall. I just wore out the little rubber frisky things so Im pissed. The tire doesn't look new anymore.

looks like everyone has already chimed in on the tire sizing issue, so i'll chime in on the powder coating... NO! if you had a black truck i'd say sure, but the factory painted/machined wheels match your silver paint perfectly. if it was me i'd leave'em alone unless you're planning to go with a different wheel. if you want to be different, then a better option might be to only powdercoat a section of them. like the centers of each of the 5 spokes and leave the trim on either side of the spoke in the machined finish. that would give it a completely different look while still matching your truck too...
