Default 4.10's and DTT installed

As the title says I got my motive gears and detroit truetrac put in today, it took the shop about 4 1/2 hours and cost me a little more than I'd like but it's done. I've noticed they whine from 50-55mph pretty loud, anybody know if whining at certain speeds is common? Other than the whining the only other issues I had were that the guy at the shop overfilled the differential and told me he had my truck up to 70mph during the test drive after the install. He said he thought he was going 55 mph and that the speedo needed adjusting (guess he's used to the sense of speed of cars lower to the ground), but I know otherwise. Hopefully he didn't do any damage to them, I guess I'll see when I change the fluid in 500 miles.

the whining is probably normal. motive gears are a 'loud gear' i hear from everyone.

Yea I've read plenty from both sides on whether or not they should whine, I'm guessing they shouldn't since my OEM's never did. I really don't understand why they whine only in a certain speed range either. It's not real loud now, but noticeable and if it gets worse or something looks screwy when I change the fluid after break in I'll have to take it back. I gotta keep from driving highway speeds for the first 500 miles and since I've got to work somewhere down the highway on Monday I need to get it broken in before then. So lots of slow driving so Motive's warranty will cover the gears if their is a problem. At least I'll be able to stomp on it by the end of the weekend.

that's weird. i didn't have any kind of "break in" procedure. he drove it around block like a mad mad...brake torqueing...etc, etc. it was awesome. and he said, "you're good to go. have fun".

I dunno there is a bunch of stuff on ring and pinion sites about needing to heat cycle them a few times and going easy on it for the first 500 miles according to the motive manual. I'll go easy on it so that if they fail for any reason other then the install then I'll be covered.

Freak, the best advice I can give you is to do your research and find a good gear installer in your area. I know it was the area I spent the least time researching and only time will tell if I'm gonna regret it.

No set of gears should whine. Not EVER! More than likely, they didn't set the lash right. Make them set it right or you'll have major premature wear and you'll be a very unhappy person in the not so distant future.

Typical break in procedure is Drive 15 miles and let cool for 15 minutes for the first 500 miles. A little over the top IMO, but some do it that way. Personally, I just throw them and and call it a day; AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T PRODUCE A WHINE!
