bringing this back from the dead. my check is finally here. state and federal taxes raped me! not to mention ill be in a higher tax bracket now, oh well. getting ready to start laying down the plastic on some orders. first order of business will be gears for sure. truck will be going into the shop next thursday/friday to get done hopefully. (4.56s) then, will be getting an e-fan, and ported tb from the fastman. now, for the torque converter i want. ive decided on the hemiverter, but as i understand they are custom made for your application. they need to know if you are running a cam. my question is: what if i plan on running a cam, but dont know which one yet? is that going to effect the performance of my new tq converter if i tell them im not running a cam? or what do i need to do? im more or less leaning towards a comp 260. should i just tell them i will be running one eventually?

The reason they need to know if your running a cam has to do with the stall speed of the converter. If the cam is more of a top end screamer then you would want a converter with a high stall speed to put you into the meat of the powerband. If you are going with a torque cam I would tell the makers of the torque converter and ask them to build your converter to stock stall speed as it will be the most beneficial in a heavy weight high torque vehicle such as yours. I may not be an expert but this should be what you need. Just double check with the makers of the cam and the converter mfg. to make sure your future mods will not clash but rather complement each other.

thanks for that info, will keep that in mind when ordering. now a couple more questions.

ive decided to just go on ahead with the comp 260. if i pulled the heads to install this thing and the springs and such, would that make it easier? would i need new head gaskets if i pulled the heads? and, if i pull the heads, what special tools would i need to remove springs/rods?

secondly, what would the difference be between the manley springs and the 6.1 springs? would the benefits of that justify the $150 cost difference?

lastly, im planning on ordering from moes, he has the cam package that comes with the cam, cam and crankshaft bolts, 6.1 springs, 6.1 rods, and you have the options of getting head bolts, titanium retainers, an ATI damper, or upgrading to manley parts. that is everything i need correct?

With the converter, they ask you for 2 reasons, one which was said earlier for the stall and the other is so they know what type of power you are looking at making. The converter I have now was based on my future (well not so future anymore just need the cam) mods. You'll be fine with a 2800 stall but I wouldn't go past that, mine is a 2700 stall and its great.
