Chrysler put the clips in to aid in profit maximization. Add a simple clip inside a sealed case housing a set of gears, and attach the clip with a lifespan of varying degrees.

When the two year mark comes around, the clip comes disconnected from its attaching device and delicately lands between the teeth of a gear. $2,000 into the pocket of the corporation.

Mine came undone at 33K miles. My differential pretty much blew up on the inside, put me out of a vehicle for a week. Yea, it was covered under warranty, but what a hassle I could have prevented with 30minutes worth of work. Needless to say, there are no clips in my present differential

Matt99's view is cynical......but he's correct.
Engineers do IMHO engineer into vehicles, problems which will over time, require repairs. All to the good of the stealerships.
Just look at how hard it is, for an inexperienced person to change out the plugs on a hemi?
Especially the right rear bank, where the brake booster is???
That's a simple job, changing out spark plugs. But when an inexperienced guy see's what's involved with a Hemi and tries it...........it's goodby back yard repairs and hello stealership lol.
To the OP. Your truck will run OK and the LSD will function without those retaining clips.
They are only used as an aide in installation of the clutch pack at the factory.
My truck ran over 20,000+ whilst I was saving for my DTT, without any clips. I removed mine when two fell out and started to chew into the caps/carrier.
My gear installer when ripping out the stock lsd, said it was a joke. A very poor design.
Differences between an Aurburn and a DTT.....well the Aurburn uses a clutch mechanism again. But of much better quality and design than the stocker. The DTT uses Torque sensing gears, so no clutches to wear out over time. Also no LSD additives are needed for the DTT, but are for the Aurburn.
Performance I'm led to believe, are similar between the two.
However I like many, opted to get rid of the clutch method altogether and go for gears.
As mentioned earlier in the post, it's also a great time to go for 4:56's if you havent already got them.
Hope this helps?
Al.

The clips aren't part of any conspiracy. they do infact serve as specific prupose. They hold the clutch pack plates together. Removing them and driving without allows the internal clutch packs to move around freely and they will cause premature failure. How long???? dunno, but moving parts is never good when they are moving around in a moving object...lol if you follow..???

I would assume the anti-spin function would no longer function properly after a while.

I know you didn't mean to offend, but I resent that. The plugs were no big deal for me, and for many others before me. Sure some people have trouble, but its a matter of tools and how good you are. HorseApples can change his plugs in under an hour. They may not have had the best design, but they don't design in problems! Inexperienced people who aren't good with these things simply shouldn't be doing them.

Think about this, how does an engineer benefit if the design is bad? corporate makes a cut off of the car selling to dealer (which pays the engineer). dealer makes money by raising price and selling to consumer (no more $ to the engineer). warranty work COSTS corporate money (taking out of engineers pocket in the end, bonus or some other way). maybe corporate makes money off the parts? well, everyone here that has had one grenade out of warranty has replaced with an auburn or DTT, so no money in corporates pocket, and no money to the engineer. the only way the engineer makes more money is to have a great design that increases sales of cars or wear parts.

engineers do the best they can with what they have. yes, sometimes they suck at it, really really suck, but its not intentional.
