Looking at an '07 Ram 1500
Id say def. expand your search area to down south, i bought my truck from oklahoma because it had a good price and everything i needed, plus a nice little lift. My dads bout all his work vehicles for his business 2 states outside of where were at because he got killer deals. If you can get a truck for a few thousand dollars less than what they are going for around you and as long as you spend less than that much to get there than you save cash easy. As long as you get all the info on the truck and know what your about to look at you should be pretty safe. Plus the dealer or seller know that you mean business and want to do business with you.
The only reason we bought a durango around our area was because we basically said we were gonna drive down to florida and buy the same durango for 4k less than he was selling it for. He ate the difference and hated it the whole time but we werent bluffing and didnt even really care to bicker about the price but he almost insisted that he kept lowering the price.
I got curious and looked up some..... Maybe texas is too far for you, but id def fly to get one

Banks and Insurance Companies on the East Coast go by NADA values and not KBB. KBB values are usually significantly different. Maybe higher, Maybe lower. It's all area dependent. Example: NADA says my truck retails for approx. $15500, KBB says it retails for about $19000. It's a known sales trick where I'm from that dealers will show you the KBB value of the vehicle and say they are selling it at retail but if you look up the NADA value it might be quite a bit lower than what they are selling the vehicle for. Also, you don't want to buy a vehicle for retail price. You want to get it for as close to trade-in value as possible. If you buy it for retail then you've almost immediately accrued negative equity on the vehicle as soon as you drive it away because if you try to trade it in the dealership will only give you trade-in at most for it.
For the Silver Ram:
KBB Retail: Excellent Condition $24405 (I'm talking immaculate condition)
KBB Trade-in: Clean Trade-in $18000
NADA Retail: Excellent Condition $25475
NADA Trade-in: Clean Trade-in $21475
See the difference? Based on these values for this area they seem about right on for the price they are selling it for. Personally I still wouldn't give them more than $19000 for it. You can get a much newer Ram 1500 for $25000.
I should create a thread with all the knowledge and tips I have about buying cars.

Thanks to all of you guys for informing me to stay away from the two high priced 07 Rams, my brother finalized a deal today on a brand new 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi
. Never would I have imagined my brother, the self-proclaimed ford guru, to be driving a dodge ram, let alone a brandy new one. Sadly I didn't get to be there during his dealings, but I guess he came across a deal he couldn't pass up. Those losers wanted $22,900 for an '07 with 28,000 miles, and my brother was able to get into a 2010 with a revamped suspension and drivetrain for $26,000; not bad in Maine for all of the trucks we have been looking at. Just yesterday he got rejected on his offer of $23,500 for a 2008 Toyota Tundra with 19,000 miles. Although he didn't get the black color that he so desired, it is a charcoal colored truck with the color matched bumpers. The wheels are nothing special either but he plans to replace them later down the road, he's just very excited to be in a new truck. Last night he offered $18,000 for a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with 19,000 miles and those idiots wouldn't come off their price of $19,800 either! It's very strange for me to see my brother in a Ram after three years of him picking on me for being partial to the dodges. I will get pictures up asap tomorrow after we finished our last two final exams!

Congratulations to your brother, they'll be happy to have him in the 4th Gen Ram section. Not a steal, but a good deal, A LOT BETTER than anything you posted previously.
Was NO WAY he should have payed close to what they were asking for those used trucks.
I'm sure he'll be happy for a long time, and he's got what, a 5 year - 100,000 mile warranty too, isn't it now?

You said it right Hammer, 5 year/100,000 powertrain. This made him very happy because he was able to cancel his contract with fidelity which will release a great burden from him. I'm very happy for him, and slightly jealous I will admit. Although it wasn't a "steal", it was definitely worth spending a little extra than he intended to in order to be in a truck with 0 miles.
