Looking at an '07 Ram 1500
Now I may be a little blunt, always have been. Most people ask an opinion and I give it.
Personally, I think you overpaid for your truck. Again, I stated that your deal appears to me that you have more $ (and/or available credit) than sense. Not meant to be a personal attack, just my opinion. Which if I'm not mistaken, you asked for. My point in stating it that way was to maybe not allow your brother to make what in my opinion would be a mistake! An '07, for what people could buy new 08's for, WITH KNOWN ISSUES!
This isn't a personal attack. IMO anyone who would look to pay NADA full retail for a truck WITH KNOWN PROBLEMS is lacking in common sense!
And that "great deal" you got on your '05..... Didn't you just start a thread about the dealer hosing you on your warranty?
Now I know that prices in New England may be higher than what I see between south Georgia and central Florida, but they can't be much higher than in NY state, and I KNOW what my cousin paid for a NEW '08 HEMI QCSB 4x4 a little under 2 years ago, because he asked me my opinion a couple times while he was buying it.
I have now gone back and looked at my newspaper. Sundays has an AUTO section all it's own. Many dealer ads. I have found two '05s for under $10,000 (granted one is a 4.7 and the other is a Hemi, but 4x2). I have found a dealer about 40 miles with me with a double page ad that includes:
'05 Hemi QCSB 4x4 SLT 40k miles - $14,749
'08 4.7 QCSB 4x2 8k miles - $14,995
'06 Hemi QCSB 4x4 36k miles - $16,995
'07 Hemi QCSB Thunder Road 4x4 12k miles - $18,995
'08 Hemi QCSB Big Horn - $19,995
'08 Hemi QCSB 4x4 Laramie - $21,995
'09 Hemi QCSB all factory options - $24,995
If you would like, I'll scan the ad and email it to you. Personally, I'd fly my a$$ for a $250 plane ticket and spend $250 more in gas to drive it back if the best I could find locally was an '07 "with issues" with 23k miles for $22,900 and I could go get an '07 without issues with only 12k miles for $18,995!
But that's just me and my opinion...

Well, if that is the going rate in that market, then there isn't much he can do but drive south to an area that doesn't require a 4x4. Prices are based on the demand in that area and if they have long hard winters, you bet 4x4's will be priced higher. Performance cars on the other hand, will probably be priced better there than someplace warm in the south.
If that's close to the NADA and KBB pricing for your area, then that's the way it is going to be.
I don't know why that a dealer would even put a truck on the lot with a noisy pulley or non working 4x4. Is it an actual Dodge dealer or an independent lot? Without seeing the trucks, I can not give an honest opinion on them.
I agree that the lifetime warranty that they are offering is nice, but I would get a copy of the warranty and read all of the fine print. The Chrysler lifetime powertrain warranty is pretty straight forward and is only 1 page long. There may be some hidden stipulations.

Now that we've gotten back on topic, I would search online for anything within 400 miles. If you have to drive 400 miles to pickup a truck that is a few grand cheaper then you have already set yourself up for success.
On another note, if you see trucks you might be interested, instead of going in to see them, shoot them an e-mail with an offer. If they refuse or give you something like "well come on over and we can see what we can do" then you know they won't go for your offer and are going to try to sell it to you outright. It's a lot easier to say no and walk away from a deal over e-mail than if you went there. There's something about going there that makes it that much harder to walk away, especially if the salesman is a smooth talker or if you fall in love with the truck. If they know you love it and absolutely want it then it gives them less incentive to lower their price since they figure you will probably cave in anyways.
I spent 6 hours test driving multiple vehicles and trying to negotiate a deal for 2 one time. I ended up walking away

I could've sworn someone just deleted half of my last post. That thing took me forever to type!
Anyways, as I was saying. Make sure you first: negotiate trade-in of your vehicle if you have one.
Second: negotiate price of the vehicle you are buying.
Third: after the first two are done, then let them know how much cash you will be putting down, if any.
Fourth: All those extra dealer/administrative fees, you don't actually have to pay them. If they refuse to take them off, you can walk away.
I'll leave you with this:
1) Used car sales usually net higher profits than new car sales.
2) Some states you can make them show you what they paid for the vehicle, or you can at least find out. I know in North Carolina I've seen a few times while someone was signing the paperwork, it showed how much the dealer bought it for and how much you are paying for it. If they got it from an auction they got it for dirt cheap. I've seen someone pay $14000 for a car they bought at an auction for $7500.

It's simple, this is the kind of childish antics that I'm referring to. I am not denying that factual information was being given to me, however, weaved in were numerous jabs and attacks that weren't necessary.
Teach, I've already requested that you remove the quote from your signature politely as well because of exactly what just happened; I don't need the rhetoric.
Now with all of the extra nonsense aside, I have collected a lot of useful information from ALL of you, and I appreciate it a ton. I've already heavily advised my brother to stay away from both trucks unless he can get them for a great deal. The silver one appears to be in great shape, and the charcoal one is being serviced. Why they had it out on their lot with a service 4wd light on beats me but they are supposedly going to call him back once they fix everything we mentioned. What do you guys think my brother should be paying for those two '07s they have?
