Default Looking at an '07 Ram 1500

Now that my brother has gotten a buyer on his F-350, he is ready to buy a new truck. He initially wanted to purchase an '07 Toyota Tundra or an '07 F-150 but he has found they are much to out of his price range. I have been able to convince him to look into the Rams because they are going for great prices at very low mileage.

Anyways today he looked at two 2007 Dodge Ram 1500s through the same Prime Dealership; one was a charcoal colored sport package with 23,000 miles, and the other was silver with the chrome bumpers and had 28,000. The charcoal one looked a little beat and needed some work (squeeky pullies, 4wd didn't function, wobbly tires and breaks). The silver one, although it had slightly more miles, looked much cleaner. The only issue was it had a slight smokers smell. Besides this, they were asking $22,900 for both of them. My brother offered $19,000 for the silver one and the salesman said no way! So we left. Then my brother called back and offered $19,800....again he said no way and that they bought it for $22,500 (Give me a break!). So my brother said final offer, and offered $20,400. What do you guys think? Is my brother in the right ball park, do you think he offered a good amount of money? I know it retails for $25,000, but the dodges seem to go easier than the other trucks. Also, this dodge is at a Toyota dealership, it would seem like they'd want to get rid of it, and it's been there for almost two months.

I personally find those prices high, but then again I am in Louisiana. I would recommend getting on ebay.com (motors section) and see what similar ones are going for. It looks like 4WD is a must for where you are located. Looking on autotrader.com, the prices seem like those trucks are going for a premium. Don't exactly know why. There are a few 2009 4WD trucks within the New Hampshire area that including the 7000 rebate would go for 10,000+ off of sticker. There is one with the HEMI for a MSRP of 35,000. Doubt your brother is going to want to go around 25,000 for a new one. Also, if he is willing to travel I think he could get a much better price.

For example, this is a 2009 HEMI 4X4 with less than 4,000 miles in my area that they are asking $25,995 for and most probably could get for around $22,500 or less. http://www.autobase.com/cgi/info.exe?bc=4369551

Compared to the prices around here they are asking too much. But that doesn't mean it is too high for your area. Got to shop around and see what similar trucks are going for in your area.

Well the squeaky pulleys and 4x4 on the gray one are still under the 3yr/36K warranty and should be fixed already!! Might look at another dealer that has there act together!!

From some research around the area, the prices appear to be at least $2,000 cheaper than what anybody else is offering. I just find it stupid that the salesman is insinuating they aren't going to even negotiate the price. If they wanted $22,900, then they should have the sticker price at $24,900. I guess we'll just have to see if they give my brother a call back, but I definitely would like to see my brother buy one of these Rams. They are priced better in his price range, they have the power and style he is looking for, and they have relatively low mileage.

First of all I think your brother is crazy leaving a SFA truck for a 1/2 ton IFS, but if that's what he wants, so be it.

Those prices are insane, and it's funny because like in your area, Dodge is a good bit cheaper than Furd in Florida and Georgia. But when Ramhunter was looking in Ill, he found it just the opposite, comparable Furds were running $3000-4000 cheaper than Dodges. So I guess it's all about the market in your area.

When the 4th Gens were hitting the market, dealers were discounting NEW '08 QCSB HEMI 4X4's at 50% off sticker, or basically in the $22,000-23,000 range here in Florida!!! My cousin in upstate NY bought one at the same 50% off sticker that they were offering here as well. Got a nice Hemi 4x4 for $22,450 brand new off the lot!

So, your local dealer is on crack wanting that kind of money for USED '07s!

A quick look in my Sunday paper shows three 06s & 07s that are Hemi QC 4x4s at one Dodge dealer alone. The most expensive one is an '07 ThunderRoad with 28k miles on it for $17,995 ASKING PRICE!!!

He can do WAY better, and if he can't in your area, then maybe he needs to take a little trip to where he can.

Edit: Just saw a local Saturn dealer with an '05 QCSB 4x4, 4.7 though, but with only 38k miles on it and the asking price is $9995!!!! Damn, you got me thinking about buying it for a parts truck, LMAO!!!

If you can't get a good price in your area you may need to expand your search area. I just did a quick search around here and it is much cheaper for essentially the same truck that you described. Start looking in other areas and see what you can find. Maybe a little driving might be able to save your brother some cash.

I bought my truck last summer ('08), and got it for $22k, after tags, title, registration, tax, and trading in my Frontier I had just bought from them 2 months earlier. It had 33k miles though, but it's still a nice truck.

Like everyone else said, broaden your search area. Driving a couple hundred miles is well worth saving a G or 2, imo. And if he cares 2 ***** about performance,. don't settle for the 4.7!!!!!
