I wired my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 ST with an in line fuse and relay. I did this so I can have an independent switch for the Fog light. If I buy the factory Fog Lights I see they have an outlet for a wiring harness. My question is... How do I connect my two wires into the fog light if I dont have the factory harness. Is there a way around this? Is there a harness that has a pigtail that I could plug into the light?
Or better yet, are there any aftermarket fog lights that would fit the truck and dont have a plug and play harness and just 2 wires hanging out the back of them.

you'll need the pigtails. Ebay has plenty of aftermarket lights, but I believe they re-use the factory pigtails????? You would have to ask someone that is selling them or has them for more info.
I would reccomend using the SEARCH FUNCTION and see you can find your info there.

 

i just installed fog lights on mine and i got them off ebay for 120. it came with the factory wires, switch, and all the parts for the fog lights. the switch took the longest to install but mine worked after hooking it all up, even stay on when my brights are on. but if you want to hook them to thier own switch i don't see why you can't use the factory wires to do so.

 

You must have hooked up and outside power source and not used the wiring already present?

 

i used all wiring that was already in my truck, it's completely factory.

 

Did you purchase oem Mopar lights?
And did you have to go to a dealer to have them programmed by the dealer's computer?
Was the wiring harness under the dash already on the truck?

I went to a wrecker to get the headlight switch, foglights, and wiring and it all cost me under 100 bucks. I don't know if you have wreckers down there that sell in a similar way, but if you do, I'd say check it out.

 

they are oem, i didn't have to have them programed they worked after i installed them, and i used the wires that were already in the truck under the dash. all i had to do was install the lights plug in all wires and then put in the new switch. they came with lights, wires from the lights to hook up to the wires already in the truck, and a new switch.

 

Your lucky. Most of these trucks have the foglight function disabled in the ecu and requires a dealer to program or turn it on when the llights are instaled. it's a marketing scheme done by Chrysler.

I don't know if all of the trucks are like this or select dealers do it or if it's a territorial thing, but it's possible your ecu was either completely reprogrammed with that function enabled or ?????? because, to get the fogs to work with the highs requires outside US programming sequence in the ecu programming as well as the foglight enabled function...very weird.
