I might end up selling my Ram today and buy a Caliber. Gas has gotten to be way too much. I've got the 5.9 in the 3rd gen, technically making it a 2nd gen on the inside. The average person gets 10mpg city and 14 highway... just not cutting it. Caliber gets 24 and 27, a huge leap. I absolutely love my truck, but I think it's time for a change. A few years down the road when the Ram Hybrid has improved I'll consider purchasing another Ram. This truck has been my dream truck since I was little, thanks gas prices!

The local dealership is offering one hell of a deal on the Caliber, and an excellent trade in for the truck (getting $7,000 plus $2,000 rebate for trade in.) I just might take the offer, but I might also look for excuses not sell this thing...

Don't!!!! get an older toyota for a couple grad or less. Thats what I have done but not a toyota. I have the 5.7 I drive my baby on weeknds and my days off. I drive a half hour 1 way to work and i drive a suzuki vitara 2.0 to work it gets 23mpg. I save a lot of mony on gas so then i can buy mods for my baby.

I look at it like this:
You drive a truck but its costing you $300 a month in gas. You go out and buy a beater car that gets double the mileage so your only using 150 a month in gas.
Now you have to insure the second car, plus keep up maintenance on it plus any repairs.
You can really eat up that "extra" money pretty quick.
However, its a solution to keep your truck.
I say all that because my dad did it. He paid 300 bucks for a 91 geo prizm and just needed an alternator. He drove it for several months and ended up giving it to my sister because she desperately needed a car. He did all the figures and said he broke even pretty much.

you wont make up the cost of buying another cost. if you already had one, or held on to the car you traded in for the ram (which I should have done) it would have been worth it.

A caliber? Awsome when your wanna haul lumber, load up 5 to 6 people and the trailer, than you will find the caliber is not so user friendly. I hate to admit that the caliber is not the best car in the dodge line up, and I also admit that I too search for more ecomonical transport.

My advice is to keep your truck and get a bus pass, or facter in how far you can drive for the cost of tradding down and the rate at which a Caliber is going to deprecate and the cost to you for not owning a truck that can do what you want, when you want to.

Wow.. Rams are not that bad on flue !!! and THey use no gas when sitting still!!!

If you do go over to the car, you will be back. You will miss driving a truck, almost everyone who does switch to a car comes back.

I have the 5.9 in my baby and I get worse mileage yet. I know it costs you a fortune but you'll drive a car for a while and think wtf did I do trading off my truck? For one you'll never be able to pull ne thing with a car, 2. you can't have **** for fun with a tiny front wheel drive geo, 3. Like said earlier you prolly gonna end up just breakin even when you pay for the extra insurance and such.
