Mopar go far...... But the walk home sucks!

 

Mine was simply because it was only $6000 plus $1200 in repairs. I do really like the looks of it

 

the looks and the performance just does better than my ford and chevy

 

I've always been a Dodge fan mostly for looks. I think all vehicles have their problems so I based my purchase mainly on looks. I figure if I'm going to put some money into a vehicle it might as well be the vehicle I think that looks best. Plus mine has 172,000 on it now and runs just as good as my father in law's with 80,000 on it and has had about the same amount in repairs since we bought them last year. My family is mostly Chevy lovers though. I do think Chevy's are good trucks though but have their issues as well. The one thing I like over Dodges are the suspensions. They feel smoother and squat less.

 

I needed a new truck and the Dodge was the the cheapest.

 

My first car was a 1968 Road Runner. I always thought of Dodge as the under dog, where Chevy and Ford thought they always had the best, but then the Mopars always came out on top. I have owned alot of A, B & C bodies. I then bought many years later a 1992 Dodge Ram 250 with the 5.9 diesel. I tow a 27ft boat, pulls it with no, problem, then of course they come out with these awsome looking trucks. So finally now in 2009 53 years old I got a 2005 2500 quad 4x2 with the more powerful 5.9 24valve engine, love this truck, twice the power, quiet, smooth and now besides the boat I tow my 1971 340 Dart on a trailer to car shows like Hot August Nights etc....(will be the first for this truck in 2010), I have other brand vechicles but Dodge will always be in my heart, hell I got a Mopar emblem tatooed on my arm

A little under 30k miles when I bought it 3 months ago for $8k from my father, the price was right and that's really the only reason I have a third gen. I wanted a half ton second gen for the solid front axle to beat on, but this will do for a while, no beating on this truck though.

 

I had a 2nd Gen, a 1998 1500 RCSB 360CI 4x4. Lifted with 35s on it (there are pics on this forum somewhere). Loved the truck!

But you'd be amazed at what a beating your IFS front end can take. Yeah you'll wear components, but you'd kill ball joint, etc. on a SFA truck too.

The key is no matter how high you lift it, keep the CV angles as close to stock as possible. I'm a firm believer that a shorter suspension lift in combo with a body lift is a MUCH stronger setup than a tall suspension lift.
Keeping the tire/wheel combination down in weight is pretty important too. But really, a 4" suspension lift with 35s has proven to be quite durable for me.

Of course, you can always snap a CV shaft, but they are relatively inexpensive and as long as you can get the truck to a decent spot to work on it, are not that hard go replace...

 

Hah, there's no doubt in my mind this truck can take a good beating, but my father would probably shoot me if I took it wheelin any time soon, there wasn't a scratch or dent in it when I bought it.
