Default filter change

2004 5.7 hemi just got done reading horror stories on how bad mopar and fram oil filters are and i think im gunna switxxh it to a mobil one or a wix, question is if i drop the filter how much oil will i loose, not all of it i would assume, i was hoping i can just switch em out and top off what i loose.

Dont believe the hype. I used fram for years and year on many many different rides and never not once any issues. I used them because my dad used them for year and year (still does) and never once any issues.

However, if you are changing a current used filter with another then expect paybe half a quart at the most but there again, thats what the dipstick is for.

I always use factory oil filters, no issues so far.

Fram has little filter media compared to better brands. Their anti-drainback valve (Ford Especially) is crap. I have only used Mopar filters on mine with good luck.

You should do the same test with a filter mag on the side of your filter. I tried it on my old 2nd gen and I was shocked at the amount of super fine metal shavings that were captured by the magnet. It was as fine as talcum powder. I have done the same test with this truck and so far, no metal shavings.
