Dirtydog, that's the sound I'm after - low and mellow, not too loud ever, with some growl when you gas it. I'm sure whatever part number exhaust you have won't fit my 04 but maybe I can at least reference it. Did you buy it as a kit or have to put the pieces together? Can you tell me what the part number(s) are?

I was going to recommend the side exit exhaust also. I had it donkey dikked , then had it out the back, and now out the side. I like the side the best, like stated above, lots of compliments too. I like it because it lets the sound escape the cab, so you dont get too much noise in the cab, when towing you the sound is exactly the same, and when you want you can pipe some ricer who is pissing you off when you truck grabs second gear doing 60 MPH... ermmm... sorry, got away from me there.

Anyways, out the side is my favorite.

First, I had overdrive off for towing (no tow mode on that truck) and so the engine ran harder to begin with. But it also seemed like the tone from the exhaust was bouncing off the trailer right back at the truck making it louder in the cab than normal. Would a side exit exhaust help with that or is that really more of just a cosmetic thing?
I have a side exhaust and it seems to be more cosmetic than anything

rear is real bad for echoing while towing side is best for stopping that, mine will soon be out the side

Out the rear looks better? I dont think so. Then again, thats why you have your truck, and I have mine. LOL. If out the rear is done tastfully and simple, I like it.

hahaha, I havent watched that video in a while. The only good part is in the beginning.

That would be a 2.5" CAT back, with a Coffin Muffler, and a 4.5" tip.

I like the rear exit look of lxman1's truck, but I prefer the side exit for all the reason's I and others have listed previously. I just don't care for the big megaphone tips hanging 10 inch's out past the bumper,I think it looks tacky.

i dont think theres more noise when towing because is bouncing off the trailer, i think theres more noise when towing because the engine is under load

Of course there is more noise because it's under load, but if you have ever towed with out-the-backs and then switched to a side exhaust you would understand. Try backing up to a wall and revving it up.
