Side exit vs. rear exit - sorry, another exhaust question
I'm still researching exhaust systems for my truck for a little more sound. But I was wondering about exit options for the pipes. I remember when I had straight duals on my old RAM and towed my RV with the truck. It was loud but it seemed even louder when towing for 2 reasons (I think). First, I had overdrive off for towing (no tow mode on that truck) and so the engine ran harder to begin with. But it also seemed like the tone from the exhaust was bouncing off the trailer right back at the truck making it louder in the cab than normal. Would a side exit exhaust help with that or is that really more of just a cosmetic thing?

I dunno what a side exhaust is gonna bounce off of, but the shorter the pipe, the less deadening of the sound. Even in a perfectly straight pipe, there are still some sound wave reflections, causing a cancellation of some sound.
So, if it's more volume you seek, the shorter the distance from engine to tailpipe, the more you'll get...

I want a rumble without being too loud but I don't want pulling my RV to be miserable. So, it's definitely not MORE volume I seek other than more than what I have now. I just don't whatever volume I end up with to be magnified because the exhaust noise is echoing back at the truck when I'm pulling the RV.

go with a side exit before the rear tire or down pipe after the rear axle. the side exhauast is a sweet off road look but be sure to put like a 4"+ tip to make the exhaust look huge. the down firing exhaust is hidden so no one sees it, which is common on lifted diesels, the exhaust just faces to the ground. Stay away from the rear exit especially since that exhaust is hitting your trailer and probably making it black.

I got the magnaflow side exit. Love the sound although it's a bit mellow. very well toned and no in-cab drone!!!
Not sure why it does a double picture everytime I provide this link???
Just make sure you select IFS(Ind. front susp.) for the side exit as there are SFA's as well.(solidfrontaxle)

If I could do it again I think I'd like to have tried going before the rear tire with two tips. I've tried all kinds of exit including going out the rear under the bumper, one exhaust tip going behind each rear tire, and an exhaust cut-out. Knowing me and my incessant need to change my exhaust I'm sure I'll be experimenting with this come spring time. Looks to be a really clean kind of set-up and probably sounds awesome pounding off the vehicles next to you in line lol.

I have my exhaust exit at a 45 degree angle pointed down at the road and at 45 degree angle to the back of the truck, basically the right side is comin out the same spot it did when it was stock and the left side is a mirror image.... you cant see the exhaust pipe, only the tips. Its my favorite look for gas exhaust and would serve its purpose if i ever did tow anything or stood next to bed to get something out of it without having hot exhaust gas pouring out

Here's my side exit, I love it,I think the dual straights are a little overdone.
I don't have any sound reflection while towing either.
