Default Moving fuse box for headlight access

Someone told me in a thread that, according to the Haynes manual, the proper way to change the drivers side headlamp is to move the fuse box and not remove the headlight assembly. However, they didn't bother to tell me how to do that. Maybe it's obvious but there's got to be lot of wiring terminating at that box, right? So I don't want to go screwing around and mess something up. Is it easy to move? Should I just pull the damn assembly and change the lamp, or what?

i dont think you need to move anything if you come from the bottom. but it would be easier to pull the headlight than move the fuse box. there are 2 screws on the fron of the headlight and one on the back you access through a rubber grommet in the wheel well

(click on image for larger view)

1). Remove the two fuse box and relay box mounting bolts. Disengage the box from the battery tray and slide it toward the engine to provide some room to work.

2). Rotate the lockring counterclockwise and then remove the headlight bulb holder from the headlight housing.

3). Disconnect the headlight bulb holder from the electrical connector

4).Install in reverse order.

(from the manual)

Holy cow! Yes, just work on it from underneath. Or just take the assembly out (takes all of five minutes).

Mine burned out probably a month ago now and moving the fuse box was how i did it. Wasnt hard to figure out how it was secured and it was too tight of a squeeze to come from underneath, freezing cold hands didnt help

yea I couldnt get it from underneath so I moved the fuse box...takes like 20 seconds and then you have room and can standup and see what you are doing.

I replaced mine in my '04 probably about 3 years ago and as I remember I didn't move anything and if I can get my big meathooks in there, I know 95% of the guys on this forum can...

I did mine from under the truck also. I personally would not want to pull my fusebox out and risk wiggling a wire loose and not know it until later when I go down the road and hit a bump.

But thats just me
