Why didn't you get a diesel?
yes black smoke is unburnt fuel but it also means that the engine is turned up making tons of power. look at those tractor pull trucks, those thing poor the soot out. It's just a different type of technology.
to add to the 6.0 problems, most of the time people run them like they are dragsters and expect it to keep up. When left stock, and driven with digression they are fine. My uncle has a 2004 6.0, the worst year built and the only thing that went wrong so far was the stupid timing crank sensor. the newer ones are alright but the 2003-2005 6.0's were junk.
exactly KX.. 6.4s arent to great either, although my brother says there a hell of alot better then the 6.0 but I disagree.. our work truck, 08 f550 goes through a couple injectors every 6 months
the trans in the dodge which i have the 48RE, is an extremely weak link in the cummins.. powertrain. it normally doesnt behave too badly on stock trucks but with the extent off power add ons i have it just started slipping, never went completly out, but i had to have it fixed and when i did it, i made sure it wasnt gonna do it again....$5200 later and shes just about bullet proof with billet parts and torque converter. i dont have crazy horsepower or crazy work done like a lot of the guys do nowa days, but its beyond enough for what ill ever need. and boosted launches dont help the trans one bit...and i like to put mustangs and the ocassional vette down lol
lol the boosted launches are the best when the black starts pissin out and the chump in the mustang knows your not playin around anymore.. Wow 5200 is a lot to blow on a tranny to make it just work with the basic power adders.. So I know dodge trannys suck huge, im guessing its only the autos since there isnt much in the manuals that can go?? When I get a diesel itll deffinitely be a standard tranny..
I played with a 06 ctd today, lifted quad cab 5.9 was not stock, truck was a 6sp manual. so it was a fair fight with my hemi as booth trucks are geared low.
I was beat off the line buy at 2 truck lengths, from 3rd to 4th I was pulling even, the ctd turbo was spooling right up, I was shy of 4grand and I was getting left behind, in 5th I was gaining back some ground .
at 80 mph, I gave in, I was half a truck length ahead.
The only advanage of a CTD is towing, empty, a CTd and my hemi are dam close in mpg highway, add the tow factor and a CTd is not using any more flue, where as my hemi is using more.
A CTD with automatic spanks me evry time, with a manual driver against me, its a fair race

There is a reason why thats true, lol first off a freakin CTD isn't meant to be a drag car and the tranny's aren't made for speed shifting. Plus I'm sure if you got someone behind the wheel that could shift that big girl like a champ she would smoke ya. Still though this thread really makes me wish I would have saved more.
