Default MOPAR Oil Filters - Superior?

Finally had time to go around and scrounge up the parts and tool pieces I need to change my plugs as soon as the weather gets decent again. While I was out, I started looking at brands and prices for switching to synthetic fluids and also checked out oil filters. I was surprised to see the local Wally World selling MOPAR brand filters. Actually the only ones they stock are the ones that fit my truck. I was also suprised, though, that they were the most expensive filters they had. Are they better and are they worth it? Anybody use them exclusively and wouldn't use anything else? When I change my own oil, I usually just pick up the Fram filters with the black grip sprayed on the ends. When I let my tire guy change my oil, I don't specify so I'm sure he uses nothing special.

I'm rambling here but I guess I just want to know if there is any reason to pay more for a MOPAR filter in your opinions? And while you are answering, if you want to throw in what brand and weight of synthetic oil, if you use synthetic, that you prefer. Looks like the Quaker State syn is about the cheapest name brand with Castrol syn the most expensive with Pennzoil, and Mobil 1 falling in the middle.

for the longest time the contract was with Fram and they sucked b*lls, but last I read, Purolator had the contract, so they are a lot better...

Ive always used Purolator oil filters, in just about everything I've owned ('cept my mustang). Ive never noticed any problems, or benefits, from using them.

Im also interested in the synthetic answers too. I switched to a syn-blend in the Hemi, but Im gonna go ahead and switch to full-syn in my truck. I really wanna go ahead and go full-syn in the Hemi too, before the miles rack up too much.

Sorry Greg, I guess I asked more questions here than answered. haha

No problem. With the price of conv oil these days, it makes even more sense to go synthetic. I always thought syn was more hype than it was practical for the price. But I switched to all synthetic in my bike at my last change and, wow, when you are sitting on top of the motor and tranny and can feel the difference in your shifter foot, it really does make a nice difference in the way things run.

I suspect you'll get differing opinions on the brand. A lot of people use Mobil 1 and some splurge for royal purple. I'm not sure it matters all that much. I've always run shell/pennzoil in my truck and I'll probably go with their synthetic too because I don't always do my own oil changes. And the guy that does them for me, sometimes, only stocks shell products. I've always heard it's more important to stay with the same brand and weight than it is to choose a specific brand to start with. And I'll probably go ahead and pay the extra buck or so for the MOPAR filter.

Fram filters are not worth the money when you can pick a purolator classic or motorcraft filter for the same money. The pureone is one of the best filters for the money IMO, but you can buy fram all day and you will probably never have a problem. Mopar filters were made by a couple manufacturers last time I checked which included purolator and champion labs. Purolator makes motorcraft filters as well and champion labs makes many different rebranded filters.

Can't go wrong with Mobil 1. I remember them advertising synthetic oil way before anybody else ever did - showing my age. I'm going with the Shell product because I'm sure it's okay and it's more practical for me if I want to keep the same brand in my truck all the time. I'm going to pick up the MOPAR filter too and try it out.
