Default Very Loud in Cab

Semi newbie here, tried to search for this topic but gave me 1000 choices but no answers. I have an 04 Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with the Hemi, stock 20's, stock exhaust with K&N air filter induction hood and Superchips. My question... is it normal for the inside cab to be super loud, i've heard people talk about exhaust drone, but i have a stock exhaust with resonators and all. it almost sounds like it is coming from the tranny or road noise from tires but like I said i'm newbie to dodge and not sure if the cabs are just poorly insulated. Help!! On a second note, I was thinking of making my own 10" single sub box for under the rear seat to firstly replace the drone from in the cab to a loud thumping, secondly I'm a cheap pollack and think I could make a decent box for cheap vs. buying one. Anyone have specs, or know where I can find them?

I have an '04 with aggressive tires, a CIA, headers, no resonators and a Cherry Bomb extreme muffler. Although a good bit louder when on the road than my Grand Cherokee, I don't find it annoyingly so.
When my truck was stock, I don't think cab noise was much more than the Grand Cherokee.

Are you running very aggressive tires? You have any exhaust leaks? With an '04 with stock exhaust, I'd bet you could probably find a hole or two somewhere...

Im with you Hammer. You know everything I have and Im about to go to a more extreme exhaust setup. Maybe we are just used to ours. Maybe he is over-reacting to "loud".......LOL

Then again, maybe he should come sit in ours and then see how quiet his really is.....LOL

Seriously though, Ruddigger, where are for located? Anywhere up north where they salt the roads?

I'm just north of the MN border and we love to salt our roads. I have looked for leaks but not with a fine tooth comb, my tires are not aggressive at all, I'm thinking of going to dual cat-back but if its this noisy (I have 2 boys under the age of 2 so I know what loud is) i might change my mind

Cool. Normally, the stock system is very quiet IMO. Also check the manifolds and make sure no bolts have broken that would hold them to the heads

You sure there is no exhaust leaks anywhere, even at the manifolds? A stock 04 is usually very quiet. How about posting up a video so we can hear just how loud it is.

stock exhaust and mild tires should equal a quiet ride. You say you have a "drone", but is it steady with your gas or steady with your speed? I'm thinking maybe you have a problem with your differential gearing or a vibration in your driveshaft from possible bad u-joints??

It gets louder as you step on the gas, naturally, however it doesn't sound like an exhaust leak (i've driven ford most of my life I know what an exhaust leak sounds like ) when it is idling it is pretty quiet. Daily driving (25-50mph) , accelerating or when I'm at a constant higher speed the noise is very loud, to the point where you have to talk really loud in the cab to hear each other.

^^^. SOunds def like a leak then. It seemed you weren't sure before is all. My father had a '00 Dak at one time for a commuter and his exhaust rusted out infront of the muffler. i'd crawl under there when the engine is cold and running this way you can put your hands close to the pipes for the first couple of minutes to find the leak.

I have an 2004 regular cab and a E-cutout that is under the cab and I can say mine is not that loud inside I was kinda disappointed the first time I drove with the cutout open I wanted loud mean sound and had to roll down the window to be able to get the loud I wanted so I would say the cabs are very well sound proofed. I have aggressive tires and can't hear them unless I have a window rolled down. Could you possibly be hearing some electrical noise from speakers? or hole in the floorboard somewhere?
