I keep the air because i drive it to the track and back home. The Louisiana summer is brutal, as you well know, being an Okie, you get the same heat and humidity. So A/C is a must! I load up the gas powered air compressor in either mine, or my buddies truck, along with other necessities, like jack and jack stands, big blue tarp to lay on, cooler, tool boxes etc. if i am by myself, i unload and go racing! I am not a pro racer, i run in the trophey class. I just enjoy racing at the drag strip. And A 200 horse shot of nitrous is a friggin rush!
I guess i cheat, acording to some because i have two sets sitting on the shelf, gapped and ready to go. I also use air tools, but hey, why work harder than one has to?
You don't cheat, it's just that your application is a bit different than most of us average joes with typical tools doing this every 30k miles or so. And that was the basis of this thread. Most of us won't have air tools or have done this enough to do it blindfolded. And it takes a little time to gather the tools you need, get the plugs gapped or checked for gap, apply the anti-sieze and plug goop/dialectric grease, get the intake tube out of the way, remove 2 bolts on every coil, pull the old plugs, and put it all back together and torqueing everything to spec. All that has to be included in the time and I challenge anyone to do it by themself on a stock ram with a hemi using hand tools in an hour or less.
Glad ya got it done! I also try to do all of my own work myself but it can become a much bigger task without conveniences such as a lift, air tools, and other things my average joe *** doesnt have. i've always figured if im installing something with instructions stating "about a 2 hour installation time" its gonna take me 4 haha
With the right tools it doesn't take to long, I can do mine in about 2hrs with beer breaks every now and then. I dont use air tools but Thank god for 1/4 drive soccets/ Universal soccets / 24" extentions (no leaning over the engine bay for 10 of the 16 plugs).
Wow, cool discussion over here, I posted a comment about those 4 plugs on the "I got my work cut out for me tommorrow thread" and once again that thread died. So like I said Dog easy, less than an hour is not a difficult challenge for any one (mechanic by trade or not) technique, patients and proper tools is all it's about.
