i used some kind of meguires polish i got from autozone. it was a tan colored bottle. not my favorite stuff but it works. if you want something really good. Get Norton Liquid ice, this is the best stuff i have ever used. Its a compound and a polish just buff with your wool pad then switch to the foam and finish the job. Not sure where u can get it tho my uncle gets it from his body shop supplier.

^^^yea what Mark said. from that pic i wouldnt say its residue as much as it is the "new" exposed paint in comparison to the paint that has been exposed to sun and elements for however long. I would try a polish first and if that doesnt work go to a scratch remover. Meguiars has some good polishes that come in steps. For example, scratch remover, polish 2, polish 1, and sealer/wax. If you have a porter cable (which i highly recommend) it will make your life easy.

Heres an example of the the stuff i was talking about. They are numbered (check top right corner of bottle) and make it pretty fool proof. (obviously dont use a pad that looks like this...i was buffing a headlight and it snagged on one of those little nipple things).
