the truck can only take in so much air, granted the air down there would be colder. most intakes would be able to supply plenty of air the engine needs. what size tubing are K&N's? i think the BFI's are also 4"

BFIs are larger than 4". The way they're designed (going from a large intake to a smaller TB) pushes the air unlike a normal intake. They provide more air than your engine can pull.
