2004 ram i had my exhaust done a couple of days ago. dual 2 1/2 magnaflow cats, pipe and mufflers and tips. they did an awesome job on it, a day later my check engine light came on, took it to a shop, they cleared it. i forget what code it was but it had something to do with cat efficiency, too much oxygen on the rear 02 sensors. has anyone had this problem and are there any ways to modify so the check eng light wont come on? i am planning on buying an intake kit and the power programmer within the next week, will these items help any?
It sounds like you put highflow cats in right? If that is the case some of them will throw a CEL just like they would if you removed the cats all together. You need to do the non-fouler trick to fix it. Take a look in the Faqs section there should be a DIY for it under a header install thread I believe.
Well, on my 08, the dual 2.5" factory high flow cats flow into a nice big 3" pipe. Flowed pretty good, now I have a Magnaflow cat-back and it flows even better.
yeah they are high-flow cats. the cat back exhaust just doesnt do it for me. stock cats with single pipe and 2 tips?!? that doesnt improve anything
uh yeah it does, first off it's an easier mod ,not that yours is any worse,. It isn't yours is actually top of the line. which shouldn't be compared with a cat back which eliminates a restricting muffler and a resonator it peaked my mpg and boosted my mph albeit a little
why would a cat throw a code just because it flows better? It still does the same job of cleaning up the exhaust. My factory cats are high flow and don't throw codes.
The high flows tend to throw a code. When I did mine I got the code and had to do the non fouler trick. My guess for why they do this bc they sacrified efficiency for the sake of flow when they make the high flows.
