Shiloh's got a story and a question
Ok, so I'm gonna start this with two things. Thank god that dodge makes good brakes, and two I freakin hate wide load trailers now. So let me set the scene, going down one of the main roads here in town and a wide load trailer is making a turn. The trailer has like some big *** pipes on it, ne way he makes the turn and the back of the trailer kicks out into my lane! While paying attention to that $hit I look directly in front of me and guess what? Some chick in a tiny Yota' is stopped waiting to turn, everything from now on happened in slow motion. I immediately slammed that brake pedal to the floor (prolly shoulda just swerved). I was doing just under 40mph and I watched as I inched closer and closer to the back of the car, then at around 15 mph the brakes lock up (f**king antilocks!). But I did manage to get stopped about 3 inches from the back of that freakin Yota'. Now for the question, I went back by after I turned around and looked. To my surprise I only saw one tire mark, the right front was the only one that locked it appeared. Is this something normal? The idea of upgrading my pads and rotors seems to be more and more appealing.
I'm not a 100% but coming back I watched another trailer do the same thing, it appeared that the rear axle on the trailerhad like swivel setup. It looked like it rotates beneath the back of the trailer.
Lucky bugger. My glovebox sticker says rear abs. So I would assume yours is that way also. I agree with Rubberfrog. I drive wide loads a lot for work and they swing a lot, unfortunately we have no control over it.
swerving is a terrible idea in that situation. fortunately, your panic instinct worked. when you swerve, a lot of the traction used for stopping goes into turning. had you swerved, gaurantee you would have hit it.
There are always gonna be stupid drivers out there. If you ask someone whos never been in an accident they'll give you 3 reasons. 1) I pay attention to what I'm doing, 2) I pay attention to what everyone ELSE is doing and pretend they're out to kill me, and 3) Ive been lucky

I didn't really create a good enough picture for you guys I guess. The wide load truck was prolly 3-400 feet in front of me in the lane to my left coming towards me. I looked at him and saw the rear end kick out like that and I looked at what was closer and saw that Yota'.
I think I have 4 wheel abs I can still steer with the brake to the floor nearly in slippery conditions. Weird. Drive defensively other motorists are all out for blood you need to stop that. Its worked for me so far.
Its also why you really need to pay attention around logging trucks as well people get killed from driving right into the load on the truck.
