Default Center caps are trashed, what now?

I rotated my tires yesterday and decided to clean off all the winter grime while they were off. The rims cleaned up real nice but the center caps look like crap. They have alot of spots where the chrome has peeled off exposing the copper plateing and the copper is starting to turn a little green. I looked a little closer and the chrome is also coming off the fake bolts around the outside. Both are made of plastic and can be replaced so I stopped in to discount tire today and they quoted me a price of $49 per center cap and $1 per bolt head. 4 caps @ $49 + 40 bolts @ $1 = too much money so I'm looking for a creative solution....any suggestions?

The picture was taken last summer.

Thats the problem with those rockstar caps. IMO I would use a quality metal polish and try and get what you can out. The seal it with a quality wax. Also a friend of mine had the same problem with his rock stars so he cut the studs that hold the center caps to the wheels shorter so the cap protrudes less from the center of the wheel. I guess you could hope to find some on ebay too?

I have had after market wheels for every vehicle I've owned. Kept stock for winter tires/duties and the pimp wheels for Spring-Fall.

I didn't do this with my Silverado as the wheel/tire combo was bad ***. Same thing happened to my wheels. I had to buy center caps after 2 years. Then they stopped making the wheel.

Bottom line > Harsh winter driving conditions, driving by snowplows tossing sand/salt at sides of cars etc etc seems to eat wheels, especially center caps.

If your wheels are nice enough and your winters are harsh enough, run stockers, imo.

The first thing I did when I mounted the wheels was cut the studs down, they kinda stupid with the center cap sticking out away from the wheel.

I thought about painting them but I didnt know if I should go black or color match or possibly a little of both. I guess if I dont like them I not really out much cause they are already jacked up. Like a dumbass I sold my stockers (this is how I talked the wife into letting me get the new ones) so I ran my good rims all year.
