Transmission kicks out
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel and i have a annoying transmission or transmission related problem that no one can figure out. When i am driving the truck and romp on the throttle the tranny kicks out. It happens in any gear and even in lock up. The transmission is built up with suncoast converter and so on and i know its nothing internal but was wondering if it could be any sensors or cables. I have no idea and just want to fix the problem any help is much appreciated.
Yeah and mine dropped to 2nd on my one because I had it between gates. Can you describe the problem more? Does moving the gear lever help at all? Any weird noises? My guess is the cable just needs to be checked for binding or replaced.
The transmission shifts fine if you are not on the throttle, it goes through all the gears and shifts great. As soo as you put it down 3/4 or full throttle the tranny kicks out and doesn't allow power to the wheels, the rpms go up but there is no transfer in power to the tranny. Now it does this in overdrive when its locked i will be cruising at like 70 and get on it and it kicks in and out. The transmission was just gone through piece by piece and it is nothing in the transmission.
Put it in "1" and see if it slips out. If it does then I would guess the problem to be your tranny seeing as you had it worked on. Might be a bad TQ converter or internal tranny problem. Also When you floor it does it slip but will it reengage if you let the throttle off to 1/4 or 1/2. Although might be odd but your Rear diff could be stripped out or some other connection from your tranny to your wheels. The higher RPMs is what would make it slip.
The transmission does reengage as soon as you let off. I know its not the converter cause i put one in like a week ago. I put in a suncoast triple disc with a medium stall speed. The tranny guys says he does not know what could be causing it he tried putting stiffer springs in the valve body but it did not help at all. Some people tell me it might be the tps or kick down cable but im not sure how to tell. I have not been burning up fluid or the tranny is not running hot. I am running stacked chips but the tranny still does it when it is stock without them.
