Will the airram work with an aftermarket CAI or does it plug into the factory air box? I've never see what one looks like from the back.

From a performance aspect, on a mostly stock truck, the gains are going to be very minimal maybe 5hp and makes the truck a little louder. IMO CAI are more of a support mod that ends up helping after you start really start getting into things to bump the performance. Thats where they really start to shine and become worth the extra $$$ for a good.

Yeah, the BFI is very cool and is often the first choice. Bargains can also be found on eBay and CL if you are patient.

I built mine with 4" PVC pipe and a KN filter. The price of the filter was the highest of all.

+1 and they flow just as well as the high priced ones. You can only flow so much air before it's just a high priced "pretty" thing under the hood.

I love this setup, but the biggest reason I like it is that you get the spot back along the side where the stock airbox was. Most CAI's place the filter in that location, and I desperately want to install a second battery. Would let you simply buy the passenger side battery box that comes in the CTDs and make a short wire run.
Only problems I see with this unit are 1) PRICE and 2) where it chooses to get the air from. Granted, it's a fantastic place to draw in cooler air, but for me, I am in some mud and water on occasion and it's a sure bet I'd be sucking some water in thru those intakes.
But for a street rod, perfect setup...
