Default Going to buy a new truck!!!

So i want to buy an older truck, and rebuild it from the ground up, want alot of power, and gonna lift it and everything, make it my huntin truck, and just a all round truck, strictly off road.... So i saw a old ram i think it was like a dodge power, or something like that, and i just wanna know if any of you guys have any knowledge on old dodge trucks, its gonna be a long project little by little.... I just love the looks of old trucks lifted with a decent paint job... so if anyone has any info on wat engine and tranny and stuff like that i can get the best performance and etc... this will be my first one, so any advice will help... i posted this is in 3rg generation cause alot of you guys seem to have alot of knowledge so i figured i start here or just point me in the right direction to go on this forum. thanks dudes

Sounds like a great project! If you can find a 70's power wagon, it would make a good starting point. the 360's have always made some great reliable power. plenty of torque!

Now you're talking! Build a beast for the mud... I'll be great fun and you'll save your nice truck for the street.

I've been there, done that, more than once! Had my share of "beater" off-road vehicles for huntin', fishin' and general off-roading from my late teen's thru my early 30's.

Trust me - YOU DO NOT WANT A FULL SIZE TRUCK! and ideally you want to find a Jeep CJ, Wrangler or Suzuki Samurai to build up. Off Roading is all about angle of approach and angle of departure, something that a truck just can't offer.

I've had two Wranglers both 4.0 I6s and a Dodge Raider with a 3.0 V6 that were PERFECT off road vehicles. Hell, find you an old Jeep CJ and put a V8 in the summbiotch...

As a matter of fact I bought that '89 Raider new my second year of college for my daily driver and by about '94 it became my off road beater till I finally sold it in '98. Put 132k miles on that sucker, nuthin' fancy, small V6, 5 speed manual, but it was an ultra reliable vehicle.
I had that thing off road for miles and miles after the pickup truck guys had to stop because of a tight turn they couldn't make or hanging the frame on a rise or gully.

For those of you too young to remember the Raider (aka 2 door Mitsubishi Montero), mine was identical to this but metallic tan in color:

you selling the old truck? Or keeping it until you get the new beast up and running.

full size 2nd gen 2500 with a stroker motor would be my choice......but i dont do any hunting either. that way you get the strong SFA chassis not the Dana 44. and im partial to the 2nd gens still i guess lol.
