E-Fan Installed, now running hot
#21
mine works good on these hot summer days in fla, i have it on the low side and run a stock stat, its set to come on about 10 degrees before the stat opens and then it runs....i will upgrade to a 180 soon and then recalibrate the fan controller i to want to know if it will hurt the fan if i run a switch to the high side for when i need it if i ever do...

Personally, I always run an inline that's just under my relay's capacity, whether I'm running a fan, cab lights or off-road lighting. My view is I'd rather pop a .25 cent fuse rather than a considerably more expensive relay, especially now that I've done some things with more expensive wireless relays that I can't just run down to the auto parts store to replace...

As hammer said, the intent is to protect the relay and fan. What if the relays contacts get welded and then the fan motor shorts out and pulls to much current melting the insulation off the wires which then touch something metal? So a fuse is always needed.

I just love sounding dumb...
I just bought the relay and the AGU fuse THANKS! I want to enable low/hi. So I am assuming that I remove the existing relay and replace it with the larger unit. As well as replace the existing inline fuse with the new larger 60A? Or do I need to do something different?
Also, while I'm at it, I have tried two different ignition hot fuses in the fuse box for my switched power source. But the fan STILL runs when the truck is off. Where do you guys have yours hooked to? I know if I have the high side going it's going to suck the battery dry.
Thanks!

Also another question, when you installed your e-fan do you still use the "Full" stock shroud or do you just use the part of the shroud that attaches to the radiator? I figure since the e-Fan is pulling in the air, the 2nd part of the shroud is not needed and takes up space, but would this affect the air flow thru the radiator?
