Default Torsion Bar Keys?

I have a 2003 Ram 1500 4x4 that I would like to level out. I originally wanted to lift it, but I have decided that leveling it will be just fine for me now.

I thought at first that cranking the torsion bar would be enough, but after reading quite a bit of threads and comments it seems that a lot of people are not happy with simply cranking it up. They don't get it high enough and it is not very good for the truck to go too high.

I ran across getting different Torsion Bar Keys so I am wondering if anyone else has had any luck with them.

Will they get the truck level with the back (or at least VERY close)?

Would I be able to install them myself? Or would it be better to have a professional do it?

And would I be able to fit 33' inch tires underneath my truck with no rubbing?

Here is a link to the keys I am looking at- http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...con/32903.html

I had the Tuff Country 2" torsion keys installed on my 03 ram 1500 4x4. I had them professionally installed (Make sure they have the right tools to do the job... that's where my issues came in). You could probably do the job at home if you have the tools to do it. The guy charged me $200 to install it so it wasn't a major expense. The front is definitely close to level if not level with the back end...definitely notice a difference, especially when looking at it head on. Haven't noticed any difference in the ride quality. Just ordered my tires (Kumho 33x12 AT)... The guy at the tire place said i shouldn't have any issues with rubbing. I have some pictures on my profile... before and after.

Would I need anything special for "tools"? I live on a farm and my dad has milk trucks and semis so we have just about every "basic" tool you can name because we do all maintence ourselves.

Tyler those are about the same size tires I would like to get, you will have to show me some pics of it when you get the tires bolted on.

Rideon do you have your torsion bar maxed out? Because you won't come across any problems if you only have a few turns on it (1 and a half inches of height) but once you get over that 1.5 inch mark you start to max out the torsion bar and that is not good because of the pressure on it. The pressure could cause a break. At least that is what I am told, and it can make for a very rough ride. I would rather spend a couple hundred dollars to have it safe I think

There is a special tool for taking the tension off but a big C clamp can work just as well...

If you get keys, get a set with shock relocation brackets included or you will need to buy longer shocks...

no the bolts arent maxed out , the ride isnt so bad , is this still bad for the tension on the torsion bar ? i really only needed like a inch and a quarter to get mine up to level woth the rear so it was about 10 to 15 turns on each torsion bolt . but they are NOT maxed

If I had to do it again I would just crank the stock keys and take the money I was going to spend on the leveling keys and get new front shocks. Cranking the stock keys should get you just about level and its free. Its perfectly fine to crank the stock keys just make sure you jack up the front end before you do, otherwise you could strip the bolts.

I suppose that is the number one question then..... Could I get level just by cranking the bar up?

The tool you need is called a torsion bar unloading tool... really got creative when they were naming the thing lol. It does look like a big "C" shape.

As soon as I get the tires and rims installed I'll be more than happy to post them.
