newbie 45RFE tranny woes HELP!!
Hey guys heres the deal....Newbie from new mexico just bought a 02 1500 4x4 with a 4.7/45rfe auto with 119k
I drove it 250 miles home yesterday and noticed that it seem like the t/c would lock and unlock more than it should but wasnt too worried about it. Got in the truck this morning and the transmission is "hunting" alot in OD (way worse than yesterday) and it seems to shift a little hard.
Went to the local trans shop and pulled the codes.
p1793 loss of torque management signal (this is for the t/c right?)
p2704 inadequate element volume 4
I looked up the codes on all data and it seems both COULD be solved by replacing the transmission control module. I am going back in the morning to run some more test on it.
I guess my question is if the OD clutch pack is on the way out what other years are compatible with 02. A quick ebay scan says 00-02 durango ram, dakota as long as they are 4x4. I saw a lot of 04-05's would these work?
Is it possible the pack is actually slipping a little and its not the t/c at all?
Also anyone else had these tranny problems and have any advise that would save me some money?
sorry for the long first post. Just nervous about the new truck

Welcome to DF
Here part of what you maybe looking for.I do have the test the dealer use's on pdf file.Send me a pm with your email address and i'll the pdf files to you or anyone else.
Symptom:
P2704-INADEQUATE ELEMENT VOLUME 4C
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P2704-INADEQUATE ELEMENT VOLUME 4C
When Monitored: Whenever the engine is running. The 4C volume is updated during a
3-4 upshift with throttle angle between 10 and 54 degrees. Trans temp must be at least 43
C (110 F)
Set Condition: When the 4C volume falls below 5.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION - 4C CLUTCH VOLUME LOW
TCM- 4C VOLUME LOW
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 NOTE: Low fluid level can be the cause of many transmission problems. If
the fluid level is low locate and repair the leak then check and adjust the
fluid level per the service information.
NOTE: Always perform diagnostics with a fully charged battery to avoid
false symptoms.
With the DRBIIIt, read the engine DTC’s. Check and repair all engine DTC’s prior
to performing transmission symptom diagnostics.
With the DRBIIIt, read Transmission DTC’s. Record all DTC’s and 1 Trip Failures.
NOTE: Diagnose 1 Trip Failures as a fully matured DTC.
Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors.
Repair as necessary.
Perform the Shift Lever Position Test. If the test does not pass, refer to Symptom test
for P0706 Check Shifter Signal.
For Gear Ratio DTC’s, check and record all CVI’s.
Most DTC’s set on start up but some must be set by driving the vehicle such that all
diagnostic monitors have run.
Note: Verify flash level of transmission controller. Some problems are
corrected by software upgrades to the transmission controller.
NOTE: Check for applicable TSB’s related to the problem.
Perform this procedure prior to Symptom diagnosis.

Just got back from the shop. All the clutch pack are good except for number 4. Going to have just the O/D rebuilt. Since the rest of the trans seems to be in good shape and money is tight I dont wanna pull the whole damn thing and rebuild it. I got the buddy price of $425 for him to pull it, rebuild it with upgraded clutch disks, and give it a service.
weedahoe- every where I have looked show the TCM to be its own module. The factory flow chart for the P1793 has you disconnect the harness that connects the tcm to the pcm and check resistance.
