Default Code P2317 Help

I pulled out of my drive way this morning and my orange engine dummy light came on. Plugged in my superchip. Gave me Code P2317 "Ignition Coil 6 Secondary Circuit-Insufficient Ionization"

I changed my spark plugs 2 weeks ago. Test drove the truck and plugged the super chip in to make sure i wasn't throwing any codes. I am assuming this has something to do with that. Just weird it took 2 weeks to pop up.

Can any one tell me which coil is coil 6? Trying to figure out how they are numbered. Any ideas what this code means? I am assuming the coil just didnt' seat right. But could this be something else as well?

Any help would be great. Had no choice but to drive the truck to work. plan to work this when i get home.

Found part of what i was looking for: fireing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2, left bank from front to back is 1 3 5 7 and right bank from front to back is 2 4 6 8

Any one know what the code really means?

check for swelling of your coil for cylinder #6
check the plug wire for cylinder #6
if every thing checks out fine (as in nothing out of the normal) i would swap coils with #1 and see if your code changes.

it could be any one of the following:

-asd control circuit
-coil #6 open or shorted to ground.
-or pcm internal failure

Well went home and cleared the code with my sc. Started it up and drove around for a while. No code. Decided not to pull it all apart....first thing this morning started the truck to go to work. Imediately threw the code and started running rough. Will have to pull it back apart tonight and try to trouble shoot this.

Called the dealer to ask him about getting a coil. He tried to tell me that my platnum plugs could be causing my issue. Any one else had this issue and attribute it to the type of plugs?

I tend to think if it was my plugs i would be getting the code for more then just one cylinder.

you never stated you put "platnuim" plugs in.
i would replace them with the NGK® Yttrium Spark Plug
05149177AB (LZFR5C-11G)
gapped at .043"
but its probably not the plugs unless its gapped different than the others.
my bet is the coil or asd relay

Yeah, I am at 49,000 miles on it. Still hadn't changed the plugs. So 2 weeks ago i put in champion platinum spark plugs. I had concidered about going iridium...however they wanted $9 a plug. Seemed a little over kill at $150. As it was the platinum plugs ran me $80. The Dealer wanted $6.75 for the stock champion plug. Ended up buying my plugs from advanced.

It ran for 2 weeks with out any issues after i changed the plugs. I ran it for 2 days and checked for codes with my sc, none found. This is why i am rather surpised it would just be the plug type i chose. I gapped all the plugs right before i put them in. Only 3 of the 16 where out of spec new out of the box.

I am interested in what kind of problems people were seing with platinum plugs.

I plan to do your remomendation of switching coil 1 with coil 6 first. Trouble shoot it from there.

Thanks for you help on this.

Check the harness to make sure there are no frayed wires around coil.

Have you made any progress with this? I have the exact same code, also had a misfire on cyl 6. I tired replacing the plugs which cured the misfire but I'm still stuck with a P2317 code. I replaced the coil as well on #6 and #5 (Since I wasn't sure if Coil F was label in firing order or was linked to the plug number).
