Hello all.......With some questions
Hello everyone....This is my first post but definitely not the last. I have been reading for awhile now without the ability of input on others problems, so please forgive me for that now that I have registered. I will help out more in the future. I have found this to be a great resource for information and not sure why I havent joined earlier....So with that being said.
Couple questions that I have about my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd.
First, I have an issue with my power mirrors. Neither side works and they stopped working suddenly. The fuse is fine in the fuse box. Is there another fuse anywhere inline for the power mirrors.
Second, I have, what i believe to be, an engine or transmission tick. At first I thought for sure it was the transmission, because when in neutral the sound lessened. I am not so sure. It is random on its occurance and its sound level. Coming anf going as it pleases. It is located on the passenger side at the bottom of the engine where it mates with the tranny. Is this something ill have to just live with? I have always maintained it with frequent oil changes using synthetic oil. The transmission filter has been changed along with the fluid. The noise was existent before the tranny fluid change.
Third, I have an issue with the truck starting after sitting for an hour or so in the heat. It starts every morning perfectly fine or at night in the same way. But during the day if it sits for an hour or so and I crank the key, it sounds like it is going to start for a second then the starter just cranks it. It wont start unless i give it some gas......Strange. Then the exhaust smells like gas. Then it is fine, unless I let it sit in the sun for an hour or so and itll happen again. The intake has been cleaned thoroughly, along with the filter being cleaned. Spark plugs have been changed and all wires and coils are in good shape. Best I can think it is a coolant temp sensor or another sensor
Any help is appreciated and I apologize for the long post. This is the worst of my issues and ones that I havent found a solution too.
Thank you my fellow Ram owners. Atleast we all have the best of taste.
Thanks
Pat

Welcome, as for the mirrors, I would check the main switch.
As for the ticking, I would start by checking all of the exhaust manifold bolts.
As for the starting issues, IDK. Maybe someone else can share some info

I remember a little while back something about air in the lines when sitting in the sun...If you think of what happens to gas in a sealed can if you leave it in the hot sun, well the pressure that builds up sitting there has to be overcome in the line by the pumps suction and it takes a few pumps to get the gas moving
that was what we all decided on that guys issue. I dont remember the fix, maybe some kind of vent or something

I wanted to say thanks for the assistance on the issues I posted in the past. I wanted to update them in case anyone finds they have similiar issues.
As for:
The power mirrors - About 2 mos before I noticed the issues with the mirrors not working, I had an electrical problem with the corner lights and took the vehicle to an auto electrical shop. After diagnosis, I had a failed fuse box (dumbest thing ever) with a 489$ and 4 week backorder from the manufacturer to replace. This was a prevelant problem with the Ram, Instead I located a fuse box from the junk yard. If you ever go this route, it takes forever. I found a matching P/N in perfect condition for 40$. Replaced mine and went on my way. When I posted the issue, I just noticed the mirrors and later noticed the brake controller stopped working and had no power. Well even exact part numbers dont have the exact options installed. Powered the circuit and issue fixed, but not till after I "tested" the mirror switch and accidentally fried it (100$). Now all is well.
The transmission tick - Turned out that it was in fact the exhaust manifold bolts (also a known isue with the Ram) on the passenger side. Within 3 months I had to replace the drivers side bolts, studs, and Nuts also.
I read a recommendation to do both sides - should have listened.
Hard starting while warm - I cleaned the intake manifold, Cleaned the air filter, ran cleaner through the fuel (5X), I replaced the fuel pump, Spark plugs, spark plug wires, swapped coils around checking for a bad one.
Problem was the first part I bought and the last I replaced, a Fuel Injector. I was also getting intermittent cylinder 4 misfires which also guided me into the direction I went for diagnosing. After using a fuel pressure tester, I noticed the fuel was bleeding down to 0 after only 10 minutes. It caused the hard starting due to excessive fuel draining into the #4 cylinder and the gas smell after start.
So thanks again.

That's a great write up of what fixed your problems.
Thanks for the info slakker25rs.
I myself had "fuse box" issues a few years back in my 03 1500.
My issues revolved around the very common, no rear running light issues.
Traced the problem down to corrosion on the printed circuit boards, deep within the fuse box.
The underneath of the fuse box on early rams, was open to the elements and water splashing up from underneath. New replacement boxes came with a plastic shield, which was fitted underneath the box to help stop this water ingress.
Don't know if they included this "fix" with new vehicles??
Anyway, thanks for the info and glad your trucks now running as it should.
Al.

Hey slacker, thanks for the update, I have this exact problem with my exhaust manifold (or so I think). It sounds like a ticking that gets louder as my engine warms up. Did you replace the bolts yourself, and what exactly causes the ticking in that problem? Thanks in advance, here is my thread asking for help earlier...
