Default Whirring noise that matches rpm's???

What is likely to go on me first, the waterpump, or the P.S. pump?
I have a whirring sound that follows engine rpm - I don't like it because I can hear it over the "Hemi Tick". I suspect it's one of the above.
I have just a shade under 100 000 miles on my '04.

Neither make a whirring noise when they go bad. But the water pump is usually more likely to go first.

Is it a whir or a whine? Could be a the alternator as well. Mine sounds like a supercharger whine. Waiting on the new one to come in so I can put it on.

not high enough pitch to be considered a whine...
I don't know what a supercharger sounds like, 'cause the only blowers I've had any experience were those on Detroit s-stroke diesels.

Maybe I'm just hearing a bearing in the serpentine belt pully system starting to cack.
I'll locate a stethoscope and find the source.

Could be pinion bearings or gear whine also unless you are sure it is coming from the engine.

I agree with Weed. Does it whine in park, or only when in gear and moving? If it is while your in gear and moving I would be looking at the drivetrain (gears, bearings, wheel hubs etc.) if it whines in park/neutral my first thought would be alt, but clearly it would be something attached to the accessory drive.

Agreed. Sounds like a engine accessory. As someone said earlier, an automotive stethoscope would help and work best here
