Exclamation fuel pressure check, need help soon!,please help!

hi,to all!

like i wrote in other post,

i have a 2002 ram 1500 4.7 2wd 4dr

my truck starts at sec key all the time, only sometime starts in the first key,

and i am trying to check my fuel pressure,,i did do the test with engine running and i read 80 psi ,is this okay?

and my question is how or what exactly i need to do to crank engine but not to start so i can read the pressure ?
is there a relay that i can take out or fuse to prevent from starting the engine?

thanks friends!!!

*Edit,
Ok, Fuel pressure should be 49.2 +/- 5psi at idle. If it is above that you have a bad fuel pressure regulator, Hope that helps.

ok,,i did test again,

test 1.

with key going to red lights, but i did not start the engine,
my reading is 0-5 psi,,is moving a little , ,(0-5psi)
( i dont even hear the pump ,,when i turn the key,,is this normal,i know on older dodges
i can hear it,,hmm)

test 2.

with engine running i get about 80 psi steady...
( well the engine is cold...,,do i need to warm up first?,, in the day when i did a test ,earlier,,engine was warm)
so what you think...

thanks for replying friend

Warm up the engine and do test 2. If at idle it is still 80psi, The regulator is bad.

ok,i will do that,,

so if regulator is bad,
can the regulator be changed by itself?,,
or all the pump needs to be changed?,,and do i need to take the fuel tank down?

thanks friend,
will reply with the test 2 results, again,
thanks

Yup tank needs to be dropped and pump pulled. Looks like pump and regulator are a single unit. The regulator is located on top of the fuel pump. Thats just according to alldata.

I have seen alldata be wrong about these things, The regulator May be replaceable separately, The easiest way to find out for sure is to call autoparts store and find out if they sell a unit separate from pump assembly. If it can be replaced, it would save you from having to pull the whole pump out, But you still need to drop the tank.
