Default Push Button 4x4

Not having ever been in a laramie, could someone describe this system to me? Is it similar to the system in say the chevy suburban with the three or four buttons on the dash for 2x 4x and 4 low?

Does the full time system just not have the 2x button that the part time system does?

Thanks for he info

Smitty

It is a electric/vacuum operated system that works by a switch that you rotate to 2wd 4hi or 4lo. Its operation is similar to the other big three. Dodge also offers the floor mounted lever of old that I prefer. Seems to be the only one left as far as I know in a 1500-3500 truck, I could be wrong though.

I have the **** in mine, allowing me to switch between 2WD, 4HI, and 4LO. Personally, I understand where you're coming from with the "security" comment, I suppose that if something ever went bad with the electrical system, you would be unable to switch between 2WD and 4WD, would suck especially if you were stuck. However, one thing I really like about it, is no grinding. If you try to switch between 2WD and 4WD, and the gear boxes aren't in sync, a little light will simply flash indicating the switch from 2WD to 4WD was not completed, which is a lot nicer than trying over and over and over again to force the floor shifter...

Actually,

I prefer the electronic *** on the dash. I have the 2005 1500 Laramie with AWD - 4LOC - 4LO on mine. It's a part time system that is the same used in the Durangos. I had the floor shifter in my 2001 Ram 1500 and it was more of a pain to reach down and shift it. Here a simple turn of the *** will get the job done. Just my two cents.

I too have the floor shifter for the transfer case and I also feel more secure being able to shift it myself and not just turning a ****. Also why spend 500 dollars on something like a **** when it can be done just as easy witha lever. Just my own opinion though.

well i dont have the problem with the grinding..

it always shifts into 4x4 when i go 4h and it goes even easier when i go 4L, just stick it N and go all the way up.

its kinda funny that when i have 4x4 Low it sounds like my truck has a supercharger when im going cuz of the gear wine lol

Ill admit I have grind before, but as long as your not on the gas and you make a firm shift it wont grind.
