Got *HID* Problems? Check in here...
well got mine installed finally and I'm a believer in the resistors now..
I only used two resistors one for each low beam circuit.. I kept halogen high beams..
Used a total of 4 relays, one for each ballast.. no flickering everything seems fine except my one ballast from HIDextra was DOA... and I also appear to have an issue with the bulb on that side that was hooked up to the muffed ballast. I swapped the hid extra part with an old ballast from a cheaper kit i got awhile back and they work fine.. no flickering but occasionally the side with my other ballast will shut down.. not a power issue because I verified with a DMM that I still got a solid 14v at the ballast.. So I swapped my replacement spare with another old one and still same thing happened once more... (fairly random issue..)
So I emailed HIDextra and I figure they'll get back to me after the weekend.. I want a new ballast and bulb.. I figure my issue is probably the bulb.. In my experience I've rarely seen a bulb survive being hooked up to a bad ballast..

@ Josh E - You gotta watch out for loose connections. I would get the same sometimes and I knew it was from a loose pin in the blue 9007 plug. I could wiggle it and make my lights work. I would replace it and later down the road have the same issues again.
This last time I got tired of it to the point where i cut the damn thing off and hard wired it to my OEM wiring with 3M heat shrink butt splices.
@ Ben D - this is why is it good to buy a spare ballast and set of bulbs off ebay and keep them close by. You can use them to trouble shoot or use as replacements until your new parts come in.

Weed- After going over the headlight wiring from the ballist to the lights I wasn't able to track anything really.........turned the lights on and still occasionally the drivers side won't fire right up. I Happen to get under the truck as quick as possible, with my trusty side kick (wife) sitting in the truck watching the lamp out display, and i wiggled the wire and still nothing. It's just wierd though how after about 5 or 10 minutes they will either come on or i can click my high hallogens on and then right back to the lows and they come on just fine. I can turn the lights off then and turn them back on and they come right on like their suppose to. If after i get them to come on and turn them off for a couple minutes, it's right back to the drawing board of a lamp off light, yada, yada, yada. What might happen if one of the resistors starts to go out? Any idea? Thanks again
Well if a resistor went out it would not stop the ballast or bulbs from firing as the ONLY thing the resistors do are trick the PCM in THINKING there is a halogen bulbs there and turns off the Lamp Out light.
But if you can get your results consistently and repetitiously then i would lean towards bad ballasts. However, to test that you could take some meter leads or some wire with gator clips and go directly from the batter (+) and (-) to the ballast (polarity specific) and see if you can get them to fire (low beam only) consistently.

Got HID for the truck and want to do this right with the whole resister thing
i found these resistor set ups, HID Xenon kit 50 Watt 6 ohm Load Resistors Stop Flicker
will these work? and if so how many would i need if i have the H13 high/lo set up with my 07

So go from lets say the pos(+) post on the battery to where at on the ballist? Do I need to leave everything hooked up or...? I'm not the best when it comes to the electronics part Weed, sorry. I have the HID Extra kit if that helps any. I appreciate it man
got my new ballasts and all is well now.. but just one thing. I did an entire thread search in 3rd gen and found no cases of HID's causing TPMS errors... today while driving got a tpms error that came and went away.. I see 4th gen trucks did have this issue but is it at all possible the 3rd gens could have this.
never happened with my old set of HID's i had for over a year.. and didn't happen with these for about a week and a half until today.
