Your concern is a legitimate one. Though my Ram hasn't arrived, I've had other trucks and I doubt they are very different.
First, a high pressure spray (not enough to damage anything, of course) and one with a thin wand will get much of the crud off, especially if you have one that can be hooked up to spray soap, too. If the wand is metal, I like putting a piece of appropriately sized and lengthwise, spirally-split fuel line around it to protect any painted surface it might contact in use.
As for wax, I like the spray on, wipe offs for this--there are may brands. They aren't much protection, but better than nothing. They can typically be sprayed on and let run off and dry. Anything that shows can probably be reached with a cloth and wiped off or a cloth wrapped around a small wooden dowel, kind of like a giant Q-tip!.
All the best.

Here's my truck on which I learned to be fatidious. You can probably also see why I like the styling of the RAM?

Too bad the vent lines for the rear and the tranny would suck in water cause it looks like the intake is above the water line.

The intake got below the water line. He posted a thread on another forum indicating his foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas while backing down the boat ramp. He was briefly knocked out when his head hit the grab handle and woke up to water comming in the window.
