Default 2003 1500 rear end

So I had a "clicking' noise in the rear end of my Ram, thought it was the brakes but nope, I ended up pulling the pumpkin cover and sure enough I found 1 broken clip in the bottom of the pumpkin, seal was leaking anyhow so I assumed something was wrong there. Now from what I have read there are PLENTY of people that have had this issue, can anyone tell me what they suggest using as replacement parts? I thought about taking my gears, etc. out and having the Dodge garage install the clips in the LSD. Or if I am that far is it easy enough to do? Also, if it is easy enough are they any gotchas?

I thought I read somewhere that a company makes a replacement LSD that does not either use this setup or at least is not susceptible to it...any replacements that you all know of?

Thanks much,
Elliott

I rebuilt the LSD in my 2nd gen with a buddy of mine. I had no prior with it, but we managed. It was quite a pain in the @ss though.

As far as an upgraded unit, there are plenty out there. Gear style limited slips are much more stout than the clutch style.

You can replace it with a detroit true trac, but if you pull the gears you have to reset the rearend. It has to be with in thousands of a inch.

That's probably your best bet it works on 4WD trucks also. Replaces all the guts and no more inferior limited slip

There are tons of threads on here on this. All the info you can handle just search for auburn or detroit trutrac.

Well I hate spend 800 for the Detroit listed above but if that's what has to be done... I'll continue to shop around - many guys talk about the problem they have/had but not much on the solution. Thanks for the replies!

What he posted is the true trac and a set of gears and a master install kit. A true trac cost about 500 dollars. I suggest calling a good off road shop and talk to them.

The CHEAPEST solution to repair (not complete eliminate said issues from happening again) is to buy the rebuild kit... under $100.

The BEST solution is to completely replace the LSD... but cost is much greater.
