Default Ball joint issues with Rams????

Anyone heard of or had problems with the ball joints in a 3rd gen Ram? My 2003 2500 failed it's state inspection for the ball joints being VERY loose.... guy says he wouldn't drive it any more than necessary!![sm=wtf.gif] Fer chrissakes.... it's only got 33000 miles on it!!! Is this another Durango/Dakota fiasco in the making?? It's going into the dealer on Monday..... if they are bad (which they say they aren't entirely sure, because there's a 'tolerance' on them??!!) they will still be under warranty. They d**n well better be!!

SOunds like this same thing is happening with the Ram that went on with the Dakotas. Mayde check with NAPA for some greasable ball joints.

I'm sort of a news-aholic and usually see these kinds of issues somewhere. The point is that I have yet to see, read, or hear anything along this line with the Ram. Of course, that in and of itself proves nothing, but I'd expect to see it real soon if there is a problem.

One might also google "Ram ball joint problem" and see what comes up. I've found this can give an advanced heads up on many issues.

All the best and, please, keep us informed.

It's possible considering the problewems of the past. I just looked at the Ram Manual and they are removeable. Hopefully someone offers a relacement that is greasable. You'd think DC would have learned something after the dakota/durango failures.

How can they fail your state inspection if they "think" they are bad. Either they need to be replaced or not. Morons. It's like the cops that give someone with an exaust a ticket for noise pollution b/c they "think" it is too loud, but when tested falls UNDER the states max.

A buddy of mine I work with has a 2002 1500 qc, he had the same trouble. Take it in for warranty work. Seems like they replaced the rack too, but I could be wrong on that. At any rate, he told me he dropped $100, and the bill ended up being $1800 for all the front end work. Sure hope they upgraded that stuff on the 2500's.

I think you misread the post....... my regular mechanic who did the state inspection says they're shot. The dealer is questioning his conclusion, and whether he knows the tolerances DCX allows.

Oh yeah. This is starting to sound more like the Dakota stuff as this thread progresses. I hope we're not getting into that again.
