uhhh, because Chevy sucks. I may have offended someone with that statement but I really dont care. I dont hide the fact that I absolutely hate that company. Some of you may look at my response and think that I need some substance to back that comment up. If you PM me I will write you up a long story about my hate toward Chevy. It got even worse when I was selling them. A tough sale against the Ram and the F-150, both superior trucks. I most ly hate the Chevy owner attitude. Somehow they still manage to talk smack when their truck is being towed in for the 4th time that month. The Silverado SS has been a joke since day one. When I drove it, I honestly thought that a 5.3 equiped std cab short bed would take it. Heck a Dodge std cab with the Hemi did.

You might have a raced a 4.8, unless you personally know the truck you raced. I can tell you that the only test I saw of the all aluminum version was a 4x4 extended cab with 4.10 gears. 0-60 was 7.0, 1/4 mile was 15.1. Looking at those numbers tells me it will most certainly run with a stock Hemi in the sam cab configuration! Bear in mind the Chevy is quite a bit lighter. Just for the record, certain model Chevy and GMC's are now available in 1/2 ton 2wd with the 345 h.p. 6.0! Early tests of an extended cab 2wd GMC with 3.73 gears was netting 14.7's with a lot of tire spin. Dodge better not rest on thier reputation, GM is catching up!
The 1/2 ton offerings with the 6.0liter are in the silverado ss and the denali, both of which are all wheel drive. There isnt any tire spin from them because of the AWD. I have driven the silverado SS and I thought it was very weak for a mussle truck. Keep in mind that the 345 hp is from a heavier motor and on top of that a heavier frame because it uses the 3/4 ton front clip as well as AWD. I dont know where you got the 14.7 time from these trucks because after driving one, you will see that those numbers are not very likely from one. As for cab configuration, is it really apples to apples comparing a ext cab to a quad cab? I dont know where you got your information on 345hp 2wd 1/2 tons. I know these things because I used to sell Chevys, one of the reasons that I hate them. As for the test on the 4x4 ext cab with the 310hp motor, it used 4.10 gears. I think that the more even comparison would be a 3.73. I can always swap out to 4.10 or better yet 4.53 gears to get better acceleration, its only a matter of gear ratio chosen.

Where I got my info on the 2wd 1/2 ton 6.0 is from the 2 sitting on the lot at the local GMC dealer, both ext cab short bed with 3.73 gears. They are identical to the magazine test truck that ran 14.7!
You may hate Chevy, but don't lie about it to prove a point! The SS has always been quick. Especially for a huge truck.

Funny thing is when you run those times and speeds through an HP calculator, the chevy comes up with considerably more than what they advertise.

calculated RWHP w/ MPH, ET, Avg., FWHP 25% lose
SS
5300# 292 310 300 375 HP

Ram
4800# 264 275 270 339 HP

I say chevy sent a ringer. Even considering the AWD the heavier truck shouldn't have shown a 45 HP advantage if the numbers were correct.

Yeah. They don't even come close to the SS though.

Please show me where on Chevys website that this is even an option? I just talked to my friend that still sells Chevy and said that if there is, then it isnt being offered from them. Maybe a specialty vendor. The only possible thought is that there is a 1500HD 2 wd with the 6.0, but that is a 300hp standard output (a dog at that, my friend has one). I will talk **** about Chevy trucks as much as I want. The Chevy Silverado is a small production specially designed muscle truck. What kind of muscle truck is it if a stock regular production truck is running almost identical times. If you want to compare it to what it should be comapred to then look at a Lightning and SRT 10. Either truck will spank the ss, so now people need to compare the SS to stock regular production Dodges? Not much of a muscle truck to me.

Where are you coming up with the Chevy being 500lbs heavier?

Please keep in mind that I never said my truck was faster than the SS. I simply said that it would take an SS or std cab Short bed to give it a run for its money. I have been trying to say that the SS is a weak and sorry excuse for an all out muscle truck.

The other day me and my boss raced. He has a 04 gmc crew cab 4x4 with the desiel in it and has it turned up 60 more hp with programmer and I got 03 2500 4x4 crew cab with the hemi (stock). We raced a 1/4 mile he got me by a half a truck lenght.I told him to turn it back down and lets run again I would take him and he would so I think the hemi is one bada$$ motor to keep up with a desiel.I have a chevy 2500 4x4 work truck with the 6.0 and my hemi will smoke it.I got another buddy the has got a f-250 crew cab with 5.4 in it and we raced a few weeks ago at the same place above and i took he by 3 truck lengths.
