Friend thinks Chevy is just as fast as HEMI!
A buddy of mine has the VHO silverado... and that is one fast truck. Bone stock it runs 15.1 and thats with traction issues. I hate the look of his truck and I tried so hard to get him to jump into a Dodge... but the HEMI wasnt enough for him so he got the 6.0 in a 2 wheel drive silverado. You can tell the VHO's from the SS's by the factory 20's that come on the VHO.
He has already ordered a supercharger for it... it will be making 500+HP with just few mods... So its about to become a Lightning killer over night with just a few bolt ons.

put a similar all-wheel drive system as the SS on a SC Ram HEMI like mine and it will beat the SS... I have too driven an SS, cheap-*** interior, ugly standard GM look and lots of cheap plastic. It didnt handle too bad as far as cornering and all, but it also sits lower than my stock Ram. Given the same treatment as an SS and the ram would win. And as mentioned above there is over a $15,000 price difference in the 2. I could totally smoke one with a $4700 STS turbo kit or a supercharger and I would still have money left over for a nice motorcycle and a trailer to pull it on, and be willing to tow it while whoopin up on the SS.
Problem here is always the apples to apples and oranges to oranges issue... there is something wrong to begin with when chevy guys have to use a $40K truck to compare to my $22,000 one. What about comparing it to the SRT10, after all its only a $7000 difference, but oh no the chevy guys wont do that because they know they dont stand a snowballs chance in hell.

My freind paid 32,000 for his VHO..... again its a 2wd 2.5 door Silverado... So its right up there in price to the Rams... Still butt ugly though IMO.

I found this, I'll try to remember to take a pic of the window sticker on one of the GMC's. It appears they are all ext cabs with 20" wheels.
I can't answer for Texas with his GMC - I can tell you my Chevy Silverado 1500 LS with the options shown was all factory options including tires and wheels.
The Limited Appearance Package is ONLY available on rwd - it includes the 20 inch Chevy Chrome alloys (special convex - not SS wheels), includes the Goodyear 20s and includes the special high performance Z60 suspension and limited slip differential. This is a set package.
The Silverado Performance Package is also only rwd available and includes the LQ9 6.0 liter high output 345 horse V8 and the heavy duty auto transmission. Again was not dealer added. This is a set package.
BOTH of the above are clearly indicated as manufacturer packages on the factory window sticker sheet. But you won't find it on the Silverado CD, or on the Chevy website, or in the fancy brochures. But they are out there in dealer lots - you just have to look maybe 1 in 25 Chevy dealers might have one (that was my experience) and if you want just the Limited Appearance Package combo - you'll find about 1 in 10 delaers has one or more of those.
With both packages as described above and with deluxe cloth, window tint, climate control, XM radio, and fog lights - about MSRP 33K. Obviously any rebates lower that.
One last point of interest - neither of these options were available prior to late May 2004. The first of these optioned trucks hit dealers in late June early July 2004. It is Chevy's rwd version of the SS. rwd version is same power - but 400 pounds lighter than SS. See gallery for my full description. Hope this helps.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the Dodges like the Fords are heavy well built trucks not built for speed. Chevy's are lighter (flimsy) and the 5.3 is a strong engine. The big wheel craze is also a problem. The stock 20's and some of the aftermarket cast wheels are HEAVY! This is unsprung rotating mass and it is a performance killer. A friend of mine ( a die hard Chrysler fan)
says he read some where that for every 1 lb of unsprung rotating mass you take away is like taking 7 lb's off the body.
Think about it, a set of 20" Center Lines is about 25 lb's. I think the stock 20's are like 30 or 35 lb's. Thats a ten to 15 lb difference. 10 x 4=40 x 7=280 lb's. I know with my 4.7 (Iknow it's no Hemi) I can tell a difference between a half and full tank of gas as far as weight. Put a set of light weight forged wheels (17's) on a Hemi std. cab 1/2 ton 2wd and then it's got a better chance but I think it's still about 300 lb's heavier than a Chevy. You put 300 lbs in the bed of your Hemi and I'll run you in my 4.7 for a six pack.

See you all, this is how us Texans settle our bets, WITH BEER!
Plus this just gives me an extra excuse to go drink beer and the bonus would be its with a Dodge Forum member...

I live in Sachse. Thats between Garland and Wylie on hwy. 78. I've got a bone stock 4.7 std. cab 1/2 ton 2wd. 3.55 gear with 17 chrome clad steel wheels. Where you wanna do this?
Let's figure on a good place and a good time, with fathers day being tomorrow, thats out but maybe next weekend can pan out for both of us. Closest drag race track to me is yellow belly in Grand Prairie but that will cost money. We will need to work out a location between us, PM me if you have any ideas, street racing fines are outrageous so lets keep it between us on this one... we can disclose the results after the fact
and by the way, my truck is bone stock too with the exception of a home-made CAI unit... I will bring my G-Tech unit and see what it says we run on that. I have ran with it on an access road close to me that is flat and straight and it keeps me right at 15 secs and 95 or so mph, its pretty consistent although I dont know how accurate it is versus a track or dyno. Best time I got was with almost no wheel spin , 1/4 tank of gas and a full toolbox of tools and it was 14.7 @ 99 mph(road is asphalt and it was like 60 degrees at the time outside). Used it in a couple of vipers and firebirds and one camaro V6 but no other trucks so far.
I have a rear end issue and a vibration that I will try to get resolved at the dealer this week and try to be ready to go by next weekend since we arent that far apart from each other.

I have a 04 Hemi QC 4x4 AWD Laramie and I raced a 5.3 4x4 RC Silverado Z71 and he beat me by about a trucks length stop light to stop light. They are pretty quick
