Default brake disc dust cover

does the truck actually need them?
i'm talking about the 1/8 thick metal behind the front brake disc. I did some off-roading in the snow and i think i bent one, got under it and bent it back. when it got bent it maked a horrible nails on chalkl board noise
so basically i wan to know if i can take them off.

i'll grab some pics tomorrow if i get home before it gets dark lol
thanks

They dont really NEED them. Your truck will live a long time without them

They are dust shields... IT definately helps for one reason and one reason only.... NExt time your off roading... lets say you hit a stump and bend your control arm... now you gotta replace your control arm right?.... How much is it gonna suck to do with everything covered in mud, and brake dust... its not going to be a fun repair... Basically i would keep it for that reason only... but if you dont mind getting dirty... get rid of it.

Mine was bent, and the Dodge mechanic replaced one. I asked what it was even for and he said it was a heat shield to dissipate heat from the rotor. I dunno.
