Exhaust

Exhaust
I recently got a magnaflow exhaust system on my truck, and a looking at adding headers and possibly cutting off my catalytic converter. I was wondering if anyone when if there was a negative size to this besides enviromental reasons. Also I was told by the guy that did my exhaust my truck would not start without them. Is this true, because I would just think the check engine light would come on?
And I drive an 2004 Ram 1500 3.7 v6.

I have dual exhuast with LT headers and no cats and mine starts and drivers fine. I really dislike mechanics and other people who are so close minded.
There is a FAQ on how to trick the PCM when not having cats
How to eliminate CELs when removing CATS...
I stuffed mine with 0000 steel wool though

You could also just keep the cats you know. This isn't 1980 and these aren't your father's cats. When in good condition they are not very restrictive at all. Stock catalytic converters used on these trucks have a better cfm rate than most of the chambered mufflers y'all are installing for better sound.
Some days, I wish I never did that DIY, LOL...

Steel wool helps filter and keep the exh gas away from the O2 but lets enough in so it detects a difference between the post cat O2 and pre cat O2.
Guys, although there is a science to exhaust when it comes to flow and velocity and heat (EGT), the over all concept is simple. Get air in through the intake, mix it with fuel, burn it and expel it out through the exhaust pipe. The less restrictions the better but going too big of a pipe looses velocity.
Hammer, if you hadnt, you know I would have......lol
